Cover Of Ticket To Ride
Last night, I was listening to the Carpernters' version of Ticket To Ride. I was wondering if anyone else has heard this version. I thought they had an interesting arrangement. Karen's voice is very beautiful on that song. Instead of the upbeat fast version the Beatles did, Karen and Richard slow the song down and she sings it as if it were a mournful tune. Even though it sounds like a mournful tune, it is one of the better cover versions of Beatles songs out there.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I like it, but I think most people here don't. Karen gives it a special touch with her voice.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I'm not sure why my picture didn't show up. It mihgt be because I am posting from someone's house and they use WebTV.
Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't people like the Carpenters' version of Ticket To Ride?

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I don't like the Carpenter's version of Ticket To Ride. I'm just to used to the rockin' Beatle version. The Carpenter's is way too slow.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I heard The Carpenters version of "Ticket To Ride" for the first time in a local Mexican restaurant, when I was 8 or 9 years old. I have to say that I really wasn't impressed. Not that I'm a big fan of Beatle cover tunes, anyhow.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
There are only few moments in a year that I like some Carpenters music. It is soooo soft touch, baby.
Sorry.

Didn't the Vanilla Fudge also do a version of that in the 60's. It was real slow and psychedelic.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I really like the Carpenters, but I don't care much for their Beatles' covers. I think Karen had a lovely voice, but I don't care for a slow version of "TTR". I can see why others' would like it, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I love the Carpenters but their version of TTR is just too mournful for my tastes, it leaves me feeling sad and I don't like that feeling from music.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I would have to agree with the general consensus... I appreciate the Carpenters (my father is a HUGE fan...) but their version of "Ticket to Ride" leaves me feeling sad - perhaps their purpose in performing it this way. Anyway - Just a preference thing I suppose. I love U2's version of Helter Skelter and Happiness is a Warm Gun - but know many Beatles fans who detest both.

Re: Cover Of Ticket To Ride
I actually owned the album with the Carpenters' "TTR" when I was a kid and it was the only song on the album that I didn't like! Didn't even know it was a Beatles song at the time, but still didn't like it. Still don't. It's all personal taste, I guess!

I thought it was a great version of the song and very different to the original. Karen had a lot of feeling in her voice.

I don't like their version either.
I think that Karen has a lovely voice, but it just doesn't work with TTR. Also, I don't think the song works very well when it's slowed down.

I never knew there was a Carpenters version... and I have no intentions, whatsoever, to seek it out!
