haha i read George put the "stamped elephants" on the back of LITMW in retalliation/reply to the "Wings fanclub" on the back of red rose speedway! he was taking the piss!! But at the same time aknowledging the brilliance of Jim Keltner!! such a great sense of humour and humbleness!
I saw the video of the performance which includes an interview halfway the set and I believe the skate park remarks were not serious. If you are interested have a look but it does not sound really hot topic. Oli is involveed on it, who also was there.
Dhani and Ben know eachother via mutual friends one of them with the name of Shelby.
The guys explain that Joe and Ben are long time friends and have toured and had often talked about recording together, so then Joe called Ben telling him he was in LA for a week, playing at The Troubadour, and suggested to hire a studio and write something. They booked a studio and Ben texted Joe back asakinge "Do you know Dhani Harrison" "No, why, is he in our band? " and then Ben said "yes I think he is in our band".
The interviewer then asks "did you have songs ready or a plan?"
Dhani then sais "No. I turned up since Ben asked me to help...he said "Joe's making this record and I'm his friend and there is a studio booked and why don't you turn up" and Dhani said "I'll be there on the minute, so I went there and Joe sat there and I only brought a Ukelele thinking it would some acoustic stuff and it turns out Joe had all this equipment with him and so I said ...well what are the songs, I will learn them before Ben gets here cause he was a bit late and then Joe said "we haven't written them yet" so I said "what do you mean, there's an engineer sitting there in a full studio..it looked insane...so we did 3 songs the first day, 3 the 2nd day and then Joe kept pushing us saying "we'll stay here till 5 in the morning and then we will have an album"
"It were just three really long days"
Then about the 3 harmony
"It just happened"
About the 3 members the interviewer says "Dhani the way you guys are sitting here it seems like you keep things rolling . "Dhani "I'm the Dad" and the other two "he gives us assignments"
About "With Whom You Belong" it was about Friendship and a result of the of process of what happened, we became really good friends and the energy which brought us together is represented in this song. It came out of the spirit of the session.
"Things Go Round"had a working title "Dhani's Waltz. About that is that Joe said "we need a waltz and so why don't you go and write the waltz" .. So Dhani did
OK then about Jim Keltner
When the question was raised and his name came up all three were like "oh yeah wow...Jim"
Ben said indeed "the Dalai Lama of the drums..there's no one like him"
Joe said" Jim is amazing, as cool as a drummer as great as a person he is. He's probably the best drummer in the world and probably the greatest person on earth, if he was a postman you'd wanna sit next to him all day and listen rto his stories because he is amazing in story telling"
The guys talk about how Joe and Dhani tried to add drums to the tracks - big laughs - like Dhani doing Cowbells "Harry Nillson Daybreak by George) and then they decided NOT to do that and said "the only person who can drum on it is Jim Keltner" and those interested aught to watch minute 39 + to have a saying about the engineer who recorded the songs and his feelings about Jim K how they all three talk so huge about Jim.
So Dhani called Jim and it was like "oh you like it then do you, so see you tomorrow...and then everyone looked at me as if I had 3 heads ...and then we had Keltner on the record and it was...pretty emotional.. I mean sad for me because I hadn't seen him in a studio since my old man was around and it was heavy sessions but..they guys...we had a lot of laughs..and then Joe and I played bass and then..it was a different record".
And then when Jim started playing his drum parts Joe told Ben "We're gonna be on the radio !!!"
As for HOT records, it can also refer to Henley On Thames?

Thanks for transcribing the chatty bits of the radio show, FP! That must have been quite some work and is appreciated!
Not much to add... I believe the skate park was one in Santa Monica, not really relevant except to go down in Fistful-of-Mercy history, lol... anyway, that's what the reports are saying. And as for Shelby, it is reasonable to assume that the guys refer to Shelby Lynne. Shelby works with Michael Ward from the Wallflowers, so the Jakob Dylan/Dhani tie in there... and she also is in with the Lennon's, singing at a John tribute some years ago.
Speaking of John, I remember during the program they also mentioned that "Things Go 'Round" was inspired by John's Instant Karma.
And speaking of Ben Harper ...he did a duet with Toots Hibbert at a Willie Nelson concert some years ago ... and Toots also plays on JJ Grey's new cd! Toots Hibbert is great....
Just now have i learned about this, and all i can say at this point is....'Huh..well i did not see this coming.'. The acoustic direction has me interested.
As much as i enjoyed seeing thenewno2 in concert when they last passed through my areas, i was not overly keen on the sound ( the venue was more to blame then them..) Not really my kind of music, but reading about this recent venture with a more 'down to earth' sound makes my ears prick up in interest.
I see this venture as a simple gathering of friends just having some creative musical fun, and not nessesarily the 'forming of a new band'. I recall a interview shortly after the conclusion of the Two's first tour where Dhani says - " I hate bands..' . Flowing from one project to another, without feeling 'tied down' is what my impression was regarding how he likes to work on things. Some followers may find the news of this new project disheartening, thinking thenewno2 has 'broken up' ( already know a friend who thought this..) but whatever Dhani in involved in i am sure said followers will support.
Anyone else surprised about this?

That's what I thought too. She has done some things with Ben Harper. First I thought of Shelby maybe being a kid of Jeff, which has come across before when I saw her name pass by but it isn't and the link with Dhani reminded me of video work for thenewno2 but that's Tom's Adria.

From what I understand from the interview with the band Dhani and Joe did not know one another till the day of the first sessions.
It's described as a project which is what Dhani has said before in several interviews, that he will be involved in projects and that those things - also Oli stepping out of Live performances (temporarily) - is just to bee seen as something they do.
So, I am quite positive about this.

Fistful of Mercy joined Eddie Vedder, Natalie Maines, Johnny Depp, Patti Smith, and others for the “Voices for Justice” rally held in Little Rock, AR on August 28, 2010. The rally’s purpose was to raise awareness for the cause of the West Memphis Three – Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley.
Here is a video of the rally where they play "Restore Me" with Eddie Vedder.
Especially stay on till the end because there is an very interesting change in the music and also a small break where one might think the song is over but...

Wow...those 200 went FAST. Sure..i take two days to get back to nature and come back to find all this happened! Du'oh! Nice to see the vinyl moved first...YAY!.. Vinyl RULES!
Sorry i missed it ...seems i will be sitting this venture out.
Enjoy the shows, folks.

Some more comments about the project i felt worth sharing...about my first impressions of 'Fistful of Mercy'. I posted this on another forum, but felt it was worth sharing here as well.

Fistful of Mercy...wow.
This was a complete surprise to me when i first heard about it...did not see this coming at all ( like most other people i am sure..). Last i knew he was working on thenewno2's forthcoming 2nd album.
This 'Fistful of Mercy' is a nice musical project that has appeal, but i don't really see this as being a 'band' or 'supergroup' like the press seem to be labeling them as. I see it more as a 'project' between the three of them and i think it's great these guys are getting together to have some musical fun.
A lot of Dhani's fans seem pleased from what i have read elsewhere... perhaps because this new music feels more in tune with what they would like to see him do? Sometimes i really get the impression from them that they want him to be a carbon copy musically of his Father...which i find a bit unfair to Dhani. He should be free to be himself, and thus express himself in his own way through his own music. That is the way it should be, and i think he acheives this with thenewno2 somewhat. Many thenewno2 fans though are now wondering what the status is now for that band, thinking this new project spells the end of the previous. I think both can co-exsist.
Personally i think this new venture will take Dhani in a direction that will open up many more opportunities for him, and possibly even bring his talents to light to a whole new audience. Fantastic if the case may be....he definately has something to offer. This may be a better vehicle for him to do so then the harder edged Twos....who seemed to attract mostly pre-teens and young adults. With Ben and Joe, i think a wider audience spectrum will be acheived and this can only be a enchancement.
We are only 2 weeks into being made aware of this new musical entity and already the vinyl release and many of the Live shows are sold out! Must be all those Ben Harper fans...eh?
Dhani is a charming fellow. After what he has had to go through already in his young life, i can have nothing but utmost respect for him and his endeavours.
I really wish him great success with this new venture. It seems to be off to a awesome start!

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this, Delight!
Say, I got notice that the vinyl is released as of today into stores. They didn't say what stores, and amazon is still showing it as sold out. But I thought of you and how you wanted that vinyl!! So maybe you might want to check around? Hope you can find it! :)
Thank you for thinking of me Hari's Chick. Yes, i would like to find a copy of the vinyl at some point...and i did try the Bands' website again just in case a few came up avalible again. Nope....and it puzzles me why they bother keeping the vinyl listed as 'for sale' in their online shop when it has been sold out for a month now!
I think a few independent record shops ( those few still left in the States....sigh....) are the places one needs to go to track this down. Their are some 'famous' ones known in vinyl collector circles and i suppose i could have made some phone calls ....but something tells me all the dealers wanting to buy one to resell are way ahead of me.
I used to be more into that scene...trawling the local record shops and flippping through the record bins. The thrill of 'the hunt' and never knowing what you might find was a real rush for me. Some real serious gems were found that way. I used to do a lots of mail ordering from non-local places i could not get to, along with record collectors, and the like. As the shops closed around here i had to look elsewhere for new vinyl releases, primarily eBay. I still avidly insist on vinyl as my first choice for enjoying music throughly if a release is issued on that format.
One will eventually come my way....i am in no huge hurry really. I have the patience of a rock in some departments of my exsistance....

You've maybe heard Fistful of Mercy's latest single "Father's Son" on the radio, and now Rolling Stone has exclusive footage of the new supergroup of Ben Harper, Dhani Harrison and Joseph Arthur in the studio working on the track. Watch as Fistful of Mercy tune their guitars, work on the lyrics, lay down the vocals and pinpoint their harmonies on "Father's Son" above. The band's debut album As I Call You Down is out on vinyl now, with a digital and CD release to follow October 5th.
