Halfbreed by Cher - I hate how it implies that mixed race children lead such tragic lives. "The Tragic Mulatto" steroetype. Granted, there are some times where people of a mixed race experience confusion over who they are. However, our lives don't suck as much as the song suggests.

It is a horrible song but I don't exactly look to Cher for astute commentary on societal beliefs. Especially not when she's wearing a full headdress and baring her entire midriff. Who knows where they were coming from when they wrote that song.

I don't hate it, but I definitely do dislike "The Thrills of China."

I also hate "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" (I think that's the correct title) by Elton John. I hate those damn sugar bears. That is very irritating and I think that's stupid, sorry.

Bill Witherspoon's "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" sounds like the needle got stuck in the "I Know, I know, I know..."

I don't like "Birthday" or "I'm Down." I think "I'm Down" from Paul is equivalent to a D- report from an A+ student!

I hate dead teen songs like 1960's "Teen Angel" and the equally morbid "Last Kiss," a toilet filler from 1964. When I say I hate those songs, I am not kidding.

Not to mention it's a boring deviation of her own single "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves", if you think about it. I like Cher (so sue me!), but "Halfbreed" is God-awful!

There is this song on the radio whose chorus goes "You'll have me suicidal, suicidal, suicidal" - whoever wrote that deserves a good kick in the shins!

(doing a return after a long winter gone - hope I still remmeber how to use the controls :P)

I hate any song performed by Kate Nash. I just HATE her voice and the sound she makes.

I think I've heard it. It's pretty bad.

No matter how many times I've heard it, "You're Beautiful" continues to suck.

I don't care for Amy Winehouse's "Rehab".

I don't like any song by the group Bread.

I never liked Chicago. I just can't stand the brass instruments in their songs.

Bread was just too schlocky and schmaltzy and too damn maudlin for me.

I don't like Chicago either for the reasons you gave above, Bat. I also dislike Cher's 1973 "Half Breed" for the reasons you gave. I also think the term "half breed" is very offensive.

I hate the Supremes' 1968 "Love Child," although I remember Bat said she liked it. I find that song EXTREMELY offensive and a slam on people who were not born within a marriage.

Jessica and Ashlee Simpson. Those two make me appreciate the leaf blower and the garbage disposal. Both are symphonic compared to the Simpson girls!

One reason I hate "Love Child" is the damning statement that anybody born outside of a marriage is "different from the rest" and "never meant to be." I find that kind of prejudicial thinking very upsetting. My very wise, kind and astute uncle used to tell me that everybody is born because they should be. I love my uncle!

Preach sister!

I can't stand those two, have you you ever heard their version of "the Little Drummer Boy" they in tune about as frequently as a show on Mtv makes sense. The end of every single phrase Ashlee sings goes out of tune and I think it was because she thought she was adding a flourish. Grrr.

Sorry they've played that tripe every Christmas since her Christmas album came out and it really truly is horrible.

Ashlee couldn't even carry a tune in a green Chevrolet and Jessica also stinks a big one. It's criminal what they did to those Christmas carols. I'd rather hear the rattling of the garbage truck; a leaf blower; a blender and jackhammers than the Sisters Atonal and Just Plain Atrocious!

I think Love Child should have been worded better. Whoever wrote it should have left out "Never meant to be".

Cher is a really cool, aware person, actually. The song was from the 70's and lots of people may not like those times, before Politically Correct rules... but they were what they were, and Cher was not/is not a dummy.

She is 1/2 Armenian and they have gone through so very much as a culture. She has spoken about her pride in her culture as an Armenian, and has done so eloquently.

She is a really, really neat person. I know it is hip to "not like her", but I think that is really sad and people miss out by not checking a bit more into her thoughts. She is really funny, smart, insightful, spiritual, and HUMBLE. She is the kind of person who'd rather go home and eat pizza after an awards show than go to the awards parties. She's had a challange of being dyslexic. She can still laugh at herself... she is so so not puffed up on herself.

People think just cuz she was risque and into costumes that she is shallow ... but it's not at all true.

Still hate the song. It's depressing.

Another Cher song I dislike. Believe. I don't like the "techno-voice". It's the kind of song that gets stuck in your head and won't go away.

The Believe album was Cher giving something back to the gay community (men) who supported her always in good times and in bad times. She was not going to do any more records, but she did it as a tribute to them/for them. I think that is cool and love the song as well.

People will always find someone to pick on... for some that person will be Cher. But MANY of us adore her... including the sexy Kate Moennig.

I'm not picking on her. I actually like her movies. But I don't like how Believe sounds.

Since when is not likeing a song the same as not likeing a person?
I don't understand to be so defensive when someone just says they don't like a song by a certain singer. I mean that's what this thread is about. Or are you not allowed to say you dislike a song because the singer is such a nice person.

There is not a song I can't stand really, because I just don't listen to those and think about it.

well that is what a song is supposed to do?

It will be strange coming from me but maybe have a listen to the lyrics.... they are quite cool and this techno sound...well at the time I have heard much more annoying technical things being brought in to songs and just that techno thing with the voice turning round is what made the song (also) so unique...I believe

And as to personal issues, I think one should know a bit more about an artist to comment on that than by what he or she wears in a song clip. I kinda think the song Cher does with half of the navy behind her and luckily not in some ocean for weird reason is very cool. As what she wears ...

I agree! Sometimes if we know a little more about the person who is singing it, we can understand a perspective and like any certain song... whereas before it may not have appealed to us. I like the concept of broadening horizons through chat... it is useful and interesting.
