Default Poor Roy...(Orbison)

I have been exchanging with FPSHOT about Roy Orbison this past week. As Roy was very much a Traveling Wilbury, thought I might put up some of that info here (allthough, I'm sure that most of you will be aready familiar with this).

Quoting from the liner notes of "Roy Orbison
the singles collection 1965-1973"

"On June 6th 1966, Orbison and his wife Claudette were riding their motorcycles near Bristol, Tennessee, when a truck pulled out of a side road and collided with Claudette. She died an hour later. Roy and Claudette had married in 1957 and had divorced in 1964 shortly after 'Oh Pretty Woman' (another song inspired by Claudette). Ironically, another motorcycle accident had brought them together again in March 1966. Orbison had been touring England and broke a foot when he fell from his machine in Hawkstone Park near Birmingham. Claudette had flown to England and they were reconciled there."

"Tragedy struck again in September 1968. While on tour un England, Orbison received the news that his house in Saunderville Tennessee had burned and that two of his sons had died. In the patois of the time, it was dubbed 'Tragic Karma'"

Nasville session guitarist Harold Bradley adds:

"About three or four months after his house burned, he (Roy) called me and asked if I could come by this hotel. He did'nt have a home. I went over there... Inside, it was absolutely dark. Food wrappers all over the room. He evidently had not been out of the place in a week. He wanted to talk about getting some guitars. I think that was his way of regaining his sanity."

Roy certainly has faced some tragedy in his life. Loved by so many for his gentle and humble personality.

When we first did it, we were really knocked out by most of the tracks, but, by the time the record was issued, we were a bit fed up with it, looking towards the new one
