Here is a basic rock/blues progression that you can use all over the fretboard and play riffs from it.
Start at the 3rd fret (G) and the 6th string and play the following in succession and you will be in G. If you play this from a different fret you will be in the key that you start with on the 6th string:
string/frets

6th: 3rd...6th
5th: 3rd...5th
4th: 3rd...5th
3rd: 3rd...5th
2nd: 3rd...6th
1st: 3rd...6th

Try Guitar Tab Universe. I'm sure it has a section of just riffs and lessons.

Yeah i went home and tried that but i managed to play it a little differently.

Going up was a breeze:

6th: 3rd...6th
5th: 3rd...5th
4th: 3rd...5th
3rd: 3rd...5th
2nd: 3rd...6th
1st: 3rd...6th

But coming back down i used slides instead.

1st: 6th../..3rd
2nd: 6th../..3rd
3rd: 5th../..3rd
4th: 5th../..3rd
5th: 5th../..3rd
6th: 6th../..3rd

It sounded great.
