Arthur Lee, lead singer for the band, Love, finally lost his battle with Leukemia. For those of you who don't know, Love was a pyschedelic band in the 1960's. Very heavy, very influential band. Love combined a number of styles in their music... rock, blues, psychedelia, etc. Lyrically, they were quite powerful, too.
Arthur had been ill for quite sometime, and a short time ago (June, I believe), Robert Plant organized a huge benefit concert, to help pay for Arthur's hospital bills, and treatments (Arthur was unable to pay for them). Several artists--Ian Hunter, Ryan Adams, Yo La Tengo, Nils Lofgren, Garland Jeffreys, and others (plus, of course, Plant) came forward to play and help raise money for Arthur, all citing him as someone that they greatly admired, and who had great influence upon them.
Unfortunately, it seems, their efforts didn't help him out for too very long, as today, we lost him...
If you've not heard of him, I'd strongly suggest checking out Love's album, Forever Changes. It's incredible. Just... incredible. It's very psychedelic... for sure. A great album.
Anyway... just thought I'd make a post about our having lost him, for those of you who know and like his music. And, for those of you know that don't Love's work... check out their albums. They were great.
RIP, Arthur...
