Default Inside the mind of a Beatles fan

Inside the mind of a Beatles fan

From correspondents in London

January 17, 2005

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11957380%255E2,00.html

BEATLES fans are shy, idealistic, highly talkative, determined and controlling, according to graffiti scrawled outside the studio where the Fab Four recorded most of their hits.

Student Emma Ewbank has spent three months studying the messages to John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, which cover the wall outside Abbey Road Studios in London.

Ms Ewbank, 22, used the science of graphology to analyse the markings for her degree in graphic design.

Her dossier also reveals Beatles fans are imaginative, secretive, sensitive, attention-seeking and like to avoid responsibility.

The most common slogans are All You Need Is Love, Help!, Let It Be, Drive My Car - all Beatles hits.

"I'm the first person to investigate the emotional state of fans who go to the trouble of visiting this shrine and leaving their own personal statement," Ms Ewbank said.

The studios were made famous by the Beatles' Abbey Road album cover, showing the group on the pedestrian crossing outside.

Cool article... I don't know if you could summarize all Beatle fans as the above adjectives, but it was interesting to read. What a job it must be to analyze messages left for the Beatles.

I wonder what grade that work got.

Sounds like a broad generalization to me...say, is this student a Beatle fan herself?

Mmmmm... Ms Ewbank is wrong, I'm afraid!

She may be the first to squeeze her 15 minutes of fame out of it, but a friend of mine used to drive cab in London and he 'investigated the emotional state of fans who visit the shrine' every time he passed the crossing. I believe his scientific diagnosis was always something like... "they're all barking mad".

Me thinks that some of these traits are the opposites of others.(Antonyms?) On the other hand,"I contain legions" comes to mind.(what's left of it)

I say, "Go to the source!" If you want to know what is in the mind of an individual Beatles' fan, then talk to that fan! For Pete's Sake!

Still, it is kinda funny though....
