Since we're on the topic of GOOD books about the Fabs, may I also tell people to beware of ANY book by Geoffrey Giuliano? The man is a slime ball, and his books are the worst kind of tabloid trash...only thing I can think of that's worse is Albert Goldman's "Lives of John Lennon," which I will not even dignify by discussing...

However, most of the books previously mentioned are on my bookshelf, and I would recommend most of them to others.

Let's just say that somewhere out there a flaming pie exists with the names of Geoffrey Giuliano and Albert Goldman. I think those two quasi-literary panderers deserve to be PELTED with flaming pies!

"A Hard Day's Write." It is a must have for collectors and people seriously interested in a cultural experience.

I could not agree more, Beatlebangs...probably Albert Goldman got his pelting already, considering he's deceased! I have this feeling that Elvis and John got together when he showed up and kicked him right to where he belonged!

If you haven't, you must read "Revolution In THe Head". It is the most comprehensive writings of the music, which recalls their history as it goes into depth of what they were thinking and feeling at the time. Every recorded song in chronological order. "A Hard Day's Write" is also enjoyable, but this one goes into way more detail. Not easy to find. I luckily found it on ebay from a person in England. (the beauty of the internet)

That's another good one, by Stephen J. Spignesi. As is The Ultimate Beatles Quiz Book, by Michael J. Hockinson.

Any and all quiz books and trivia books are good to have. You can actually learn a thing or three from some of them.

I recommend the books comprised of interviews. You get the Beatles candidly in their own words. "things We Said Today" is one that is easy to find in bookstores.

"Things We Said Today" is definitely a must have and a must read.

Another good resource tool is the Beatlemania game (the Beatle version of "Trivial Pursuit," of sorts). I ordered mine back in the mid-1980s from Beatlefest and I sure have the DARNDEST time finding anybody who'll play it with me!

A couple of other really good reads:

"The Lennon Companion: Twenty-Five Years of Comment," edited by Elizabeth Thomson and David Gutman - a wonderful compilation of articles and interviews, including, among other things, a profile written by Gloria Steinem (!) in her days as a writer for COSMOPOLITAN and the complete interview with Maureen Cleve in which John makes the infamous "Jesus" comment, IN CONTEXT!

"Love Me Do - The Beatles' Progress" by Michael Braun - a behind the scenes story of the Beatles' first British tour in 1963, before they hit America, at the beginning of Beatlemania. It is EXCELLENT - no punches are pulled, it is not sanitized, and it is an amazingly candid and true contemporary account. (According to the book jacket, Mark Lewisohn called this book possibly the "best book ever written about them! All I know is it's darn good! I'm not sure if it's still in print -- I found my copy on a trip to England four years ago, in a remainder pile in a discount bookstore...but it's worth seeking out!

There are plenty of others, but I did want to recommend these -- they are excellent!
