Default Beatleslinks Forum Review for "A Date with a Beatle"

WOW!

Thank you for such a lovely review!
Over 46 years I guess I told those adventures a few thousand times... and it was never even once a drag for me. it was fun and I felt honored when asked: "Tell me about inside The Plaza again!" ... "Tell my sister about what Kennedy Airport was like when they landed!" ... Tell my friend about when you FINALLY met George!!!"
I think the book is written (in the best way to describe it) as if I had a camera on my shoulder throughout 1964 and I'm taking the readers along with me.

It was a BLAST to live...I'm glad I was as goofy as I was and as tenacious as I was... and I'm very happy to now have it all in print to bring back, or introduce those days to all the fans who love and adore The Beatles.
This is a book FROM a fan TO the fans... that shows the real love affair we had with them from the other side of the footlights.

Judith, I read the book in a single sitting and enjoyed it tremendously. All the time I kept thinking "This would make a fantastic film...but who could possibly play George?"

I loved the "lost shoe" incident. When you look at the utter frenzy surrounding the Beatles' concerts there must have been hundreds of girls who lost their shoes, glasses, handbags etc, and had to explain to furious parents why their clothes were in tatters! And George's final appearance "in the flesh" was beautifully handled - do you still have that hanky and Coke bottle? I like to imagine them enshrined in a glass case...

Even if you hadn't met George I'd still be jealous of you for attending no fewer than NINE Beatles concerts including Shea Stadium. Amazing!

Val...

Thank you for the nice review!! :)

From your lips to one million other fan's ears.

:)

You know, I ALWAYS loved the man even before I met him...but, as you know, after reading A Date with A Beatle, that I just pushed the old "I gotta meet George" envelope waaaaay too far with the police and fire department.

Oh, well... :)

Then, as the grandest of all luck/divine intervention/ whatever you want to call it.... there he was: - Tabac and cigarette smelling, chesterfield suit wearing, shiny hair, gorgeous eyes, crooked smile, George Harrison right in front of me!!!

AND I could NOT have looked worse if I tried.

Yet, he showed compassion and kindness, a sense of humor and made sure that I would be safe from arrest by the Atlantic City police.

I truly believe from that moment on, I carried that "There's always a silver lining out there somewhere" ... all thanks to George.

His Mom raised him well.

He was a good man.

Hi Judith
I read your book....
It sure was fun to read. The things you did to meet George.... There was nothing to stop you huh?
You think George has met more fans like you..... the way you looked when you finally met him? If not chances are high he must have remembered you So that's a good thing...isn't it?

And I agree with Val: It would make a great film...

I was embarrassed for YEARS about how I looked when I saw him, considering how long it took me to pull that "Ronette" look together... and then I get hosed down by the fire department!!!! I looked like a drowned rat.

But the older I got and the more I thought about how it went when I met him...
it was better than a meet and greet... better than a quick backstage visit for a photo and an autograph...

What I got was a genuine moment... and real time spent with George Harrison, the guy from Liverpool... and not just Beatle George.

Now, it doesn't matter how I looked... those good memories of a really nice (and utterly gorgeous) man who helped a young, crazy kid out of a v-e-r-y bad situation is what I remember... and he was indeed a lovely man. (Beatle or not)

:)

I always smile when I recall that moment in time.

Louise brought up her son well and taught him proper manners.

Judith, this video shows some girls in front of the Plaza, screaming for the Beatles. From 1:37 to 1:50. Are you one of them?

Is there any video where we can see you?

When I watch "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," a delightful 1978 movie about some resourceful kids who see the Beatles, I think of you.

I think I'm gonna rent it for Memorial Day weekend.

Then it will be a Memory-able weekend, too!

It is a wonderful film and I just love it. Susan Newman, Paul Newman's daughter stars as the Beatle Buster who eventually undergoes a transformation and becomes a Beatle fan!

It is one of my favorite fun movies. How I wish I could have been in it. I would not have been acting! I'd be a natural!

(Cloud likes the part where George steps out of his trousers to have them cleaned and pressed and the fan, upon seeing George in a state of semi-dishabille, goes into an erotically induced swoon).
