Default Lennon - Mccartney Night on American Idol!

Next tuesday (April 6) is going to be an all Lennon - Mccartney songs night on A.I.. Isn't Sir Paul going to be in California then? Maybe .....just maybe he will be their guest mentor. If he is, that means he will perform on the results show.

Didn't they already butcher these songs a few years ago...

I think they had a Beatles night a year or two ago, didn't they?

(If I actually had TV), I'd be tempted to watch to see if there are any decent covers... but at the same time, I really prefer not to listen if someone butchers a classic Beatles tune. :P

Aaaaaaaaah! I can't help myself, I always have to watch Beatles night and see just how bad it can be! (And they're usually pretty bad.) Thanks for the heads-up.

Paul just finished his Hollywood Bowl dates last night. Is he hanging round town another week?

It was bad enough last season having to listen to Adam Lambert butcher Led Zeppelin songs. I couldn't bear to watch these "singers" do the same to Beatles songs. It would be nearly as bad as Kidz Bop Does the Beatles.

I'm going to watch too - though I can't bear the thought of Tim lounge lizard singing one of their songs...maybe he can do Octopus's Garden. That's about his style of renditions!

American Idol Beatles Week - George and John Will Be Rolling in Their Graves

http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/news...ir-graves.html

Once again the American Idol Powers That Be are dipping into the well of familiarity and asking this season’s crop of axe murderers to do heinous things to one of the universe’s best loved catalogues of music.

Hold onto your hats, Idoloonies. It’s Beatles Week. Yes, again.

Here’s what I hope to hear from Tim Urban, et. al.

Lee DeWyze: Lee needs to rock right now. Lee should try not to murder “Back in the USSR.”

Crystal Bowersox: She went slow-ish last week, she should bring it uptempo a bit this week. I’d like to hear something that has never been done on Idol (always), like “Ballad of John and Yoko.”

Katie Stevens: You know Bride of Chucky, Katie Stevens, is going to look for the most diva-tastic Beatles song to strangle. Probably “Hey Jude” or “Let It Be.” I want her to prove us all wrong and do something more pop-y and fun (like she claims to be). Maybe “I Feel Fine.”

Tim Urban: Little Timmy Smiles is a great one for misunderstanding lyrics, so I hope he chooses one of the more inscrutable Beatles songs. He has no idea what he’s singing anyway, so why not sing “I Am the Walrus?”

Siobhan Magnus: Siobhan needs to recapture her “House of the Rising Sun” magic with a more understated song (and fabulous lighting). I’d like to hear “Yesterday” or “Across the Universe.”

Michael Lynche: Big Mike needs to work on making himself more relevant and less loungey. I like quiet, contemplative Mike. I’d like him to soften things up again with “Julia.”

Aaron Kelly: Aaron needs to sing a younger, happier Beatles song. And, because it’s what he apparently wants to do with his life whether or not I approve of it, he should try to make it his “own” by making the song more country. What I just typed grosses me out a bit. Anyway, he should sing “Help!”

Casey James: Casey needs to take some muscle relaxers before Tuesday night, and he’ll be just fine. And if he insists on using the electric guitar, he needs to rock out with it. Like on “Revolution.”

Andrew Garcia: I want to hear Andrew Garcia sing something in the tempo in which it was intended. I want him to have fun, and I want him to feel the lyrics. I’d like to hear him perform “From Me to You.” All the better if he can rock the mouth harp, right, Randy?

It was absolutely dreadful.

Had to google him, he was actually not the worst one... probably the best of the lot but that's not saying a lot!

The sad thing is, the performances weren't nearly as disastrous as I expected them to be. My expectations were so low that I was kind of okay, lol...

Yeah, so far I have only seen maybe one or two not-too-good renditions.

I just saw Casey(?) kick "Jealous Guy" out of the park. Excellent rendition!

All in all, they're not butchering the songs at all. My only complaint is that the judges actually liked Tim Urban's performance tonight, and he'll probably be around for yet another week!

Oh, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I quite liked the performances of "Come Together" and "Jealous Guy."

Didgeridoos and bagpipes?! At least it made for an interesting evening...

I haven't watched AI in a long time, but it seems that every time they have a Lennon-McCartney night, someone sings Let it Be, The Long and Winding Road, and Hey Jude... snoooooooze. Show offs.

I agree with 62hofner and aeolian cadence...The three who sang John songs were all pretty good, I thought. I kinda dug that chick who did Come Together. Not bad. She did have a Bonnie Raitt feel. And the dude who did Jealous Guy... he was kinda cool, I'm embarrassed to admit. And an out-of-the-box choice... gotta give him props for that, at the very least.
