Give Me Plenty Of That Guitar
When Roger McGuinn of The Byrds met George Harrison of The Beatles for the first time, they naturally discussed guitar riffs.
Roger was pleased to learn that the first riff they had both learnt was the same one.
On what song was the guitar riff and who was the singer?

Seems this is a George Harrison month. I can't participate and I'm a huge George fan.

I don't think I'll go that far!
Let's just say it's a book that came out last year.

So we're looking for a song and a singer from the fifties. The singer had a group but The Beatles were pleased to be photographed with just him.

In fact he even played the Cavern on the same bill as the Beatles.

So we're still looking for a song title to go with the singer who has been found.
I read on one site that the song was banned from radio play inthe UK in the fifties so George must have heard it on a single.

Woman Love. They both learned to play the same lead breaks of that song around the same time. It's on the flip side of Be-Bop-A-Lula. According to McGuinn it was the first song they both learned to play on guitar.

Gene Vincent was the singer, and I've just knocked myself out of being able to answer this question by responding to it twice in a row.

So johncharles has posted twice before I answered so he has disqualified himself from this question.
If nobody posts the complete answer in one post before tomorrow then I'll move on to another question and no points will be awarded.

So no one has come forward to steal the point.
The riff Roger and George first learnt was from Gene Vincent's track Woman Love.
The scores remain the same :
johncharles - 2
johnnymain - 1
mistfitboy - 1
