Such sad news. I am really upset about it. Darling Davy!

I am so grateful I got to see him and his 2 bandmates less than a year ago on the reunion tour.

He will be missed xxxxxxxxxxxxx

He seemed forever young. I was so shocked.

This is a shame for sure. The Monkees put on an awesome show last year and I will go to my grave arguing that the TV show was one of the most clever, fun, well-written sitcoms of all time.

But LOLZ at Nez's super-over-the-top-pseudo-intellectual statement. Quit being such a weirdo.

I may get smacked around with a few keyboards for this...

I view the Monkees as overhyped, decent singers with questionable musicianship, etc. but of course marketed well. Make a living anyway you can I guess.

Those who knew him and fans who really liked him, may you have as many great memories as you need today to deal with the loss.

Unhappy

RIP Davy, I loved the Monkees show, I got the biggest laughs from the show's comedy, I had the priviledge of seeing the 3 during the reunion and you could see Davy just come to life when he was up on stage, Davy won a Tony for his broadway acting in "Oliver" so he was no slouch! I always found Davy quite charming in interviews I have seen, actually, recently I have seen interviews with Peter, Davy and Micky and all of them were quite charming!
I have said in another post Micky was my favorite, Davy was still easy on the eyes as of a couple months ago when the 3 were on "The View" and "Ellen".

No, actually you have some valid points, the same that lots of people have had over the years about the Monkess....

I like the sweet wish you made for Davy's fans, whether I was a fan or not, it is sad to see a vital human being's life taken!

However they/the Monkees came to be, what a way to make a living, being adored by millions!

I am very saddened and stunned to hear of Davy's passing. I think Al Roker's tweet today says it best for me also. " A little bit of my youth died today"

What an unfortuate thing. I had a crush on Davy when I was little. I thought he looked a little like George Harrison, only not quite as sexy and fine.

Davey Jones was on Ed Sullivan on 2/9/1964 with the cast from Oliver! Ironic that he was heralding the Beatles!

I loved the Monkees. Here is the kicker: serious Neil Diamond auditioned (can you imagine someone as serious as Neil Diamond playing a carefree Monkee)? and the irony of it all is he ended up writing some of their songs.

Steve Stills
John Sebastian

Ironic, these talented artists who auditioned for the Monkees also ended up doing quite well musically.

Found nothing funny about it at all, found it quite touching to be honest

What's everyone's favorite songs? Mine would be "Words", "Love Is Only Sleeping", "Look Out Here Comes Tomorrow", "Cuddly Toy", and "Star Collector".

"A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You;" "Words;" "Monkees' Theme Song;" "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" and my favorite TV episode was a 1967 episode when the Monkees were playing with a group of kids on a beach/playground.

I read that Peter and Mike were the most accomplished musicians of the group. Peter didn't like playing the part of a dummkopf and he and Mike went toe-to-toe with the brass in re creative control with music. Mike reportedly stated that "the Monkees were a band the way Dr. Kildare [popular TV show from 1961-1966 and based on a literary/radio/movie character created in the late 1930s] was a real doctor."

Revival concerts in the 1980s were a plenty. Nesmith was conspicuously absent during these Monkee Reunion concerts. He reportedly chafed at not being able to demonstrate the full range of his talent; he like David Cassidy of the execrable Partridge Family (1970-1974) didn't like playing with a TV band instead of a "real" band. Cassidy wrote a book about his Partridge days; he wrote in a very bitter tone and moaned about how much he wanted to do rock instead of cheesy bubblegum tunes wherein none of the other cast members even played an instrument! At least the Monkees played real instruments and their songs were, I think good!
