Well, I have to admit that the first time I rented it - I fell asleep. So a few years later I rented it again - and fell asleep again! Then I bought it and had a chance to really watch it. It grows on you. You have to be patient. After all is said and done, there are quite a few really nice musical sequences. MTV would call them videos of course. The scenes for I Am The Walrus, Fool On The Hill, & Your Mother Should Know are especially nice.

I only ever saw it once, and it was a video I had borrowed from my local library. Frankly, the quality of the video was terrible, so I probably have a skewed view of the movie. But I remember not liking it very much.

I've never seen it, but from what I hear, it's a home movie gone wrong. I did see Help! though. Wacky, wacky movie. Don't know what to make of it.

I've been a huge fan of the Beatles since the Ed Sullivan days, and I tried to watch this movie 3 seperate times throughout the years and couldn't get through to the end. Maybe I'll try again one day when there's no Yankees game on tv.

I have yet to see MMT in its entirety. I've tried twice. The first time, I fell asleep also, Jerry, so feel like the odd man out. One of these days I will make myself watch it all.

Default What\'s your opinion of the film, Magical Mystery Tour?

I'm getting the film, Magical Mystery Tour next week, and I was wondering what people thought of it. So here you go. Review it like the movie critics.

When it was originally shown in N.Y., only 1 or 2 theaters in Manhattan housed it, so we had to buy tickets in advance & wait on line to get in. I was much younger then, & I thought it was way over my head. I was never into the drug scene & I thought that was why I just didn't "get" it. In any event, I remember being disappointed & confused when it was all over. I didn't go back a second time. (Not a second time, no, no, no.....)

The film, MMT, huh?

On the one hand, it's got some great musical sequences ("videos"), partuicularly the "I Am The Walrus" and "Fool On The Hill" tracks... And the "Flying" sequence is exquisite.

On the other hand, if there WAS a plot to the thing, it certainly got muddled in the execution... If you can make it to the end, though, the stripper isn't bad...

I don't know what you're talking about? I've watched the film twice now within 24 hours!

Seriously though, I watched it first to cross-record (I think Americans call it pirate) the film onto another tape so that I don't keep playing the original over and over, ruining it. I did lose a little interest at the end but I didn't fall asleep. I watched it again to see whether there were any PiD clues that weren't in the booklet. I've got a few which will be posted up on my site in a couple of days.

Did you know that Paul exposed himself during the Fool on the Hill music scene? It's during bit where he appears from behind the hill and skips towards the camera in a long, black cloak. His shirt-tail is showing, but if you look closely, there's something wobbling underneath! What does everyone think?

Harbridge, I never, ever heard anything about Paul's overexposure episode. How on earth did you ever find that out? Did you just observe it by chance? Even if it's true, I still don't think I'm up to sitting through that film again yet. I'll be anxious to see what some of my friends have to say about this revelation.

I found it out on a website which is on the beatlelinks.net database. It can be found at:
http://home.att.net/~liveletdie/Movies/movies.html

Not olny does it have Paul exposing himself, it has John snorting 'coke', What's under the gumwrapper in Help!, and a mind reading George. It's a great site and I recommend it. Whoever did it has a great sense of humour.

Harbridge, I'm with you, I have watched this movie at frequent intervals during the past ...... years, and love it every time. You do not need wacky backy or any stimulant other than music to appreciate it. Perhaps you need to have grown up on a diet of The Goons, Monty Python and so on to appreciate the weird sense of the absurd. John's 'Spaghetti scene' cracks me up every time, and we all agree on the music. 'Nuff said.

Does anyone know where I can get a transript for the MMT film? or, failing that, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the lyrics for the song the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band played during the stripper scene?

Many thanks.

Thank you, thank you. I've been looking for them everywhere. Have a chocolate bar.

I really appreciate what you've done. Thank you.

(As you can probably see, I'm grateful.)

Is Penny Lane in MMT or just the album? If it is in the movie, how does it fit in? I have tried to rent the movie, but no one has it.

See, Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane were only released as singles because the record company were a little anxious, the band had been in the studio forever, working on Sgt Pepper, and the company wanted a single. George Martin only had Strawb/PL ready for release, but was reluctant to do so, as these were originally to have been the 2nd & 3rd tracks on the album. So the answer to your q is that Penny Lane should never have been included in MMT, as it was intended for Sgt. Pepper. Furthermore, MMT was not released in the UK & Europe as an album , but as a double EP with a booklet. You should try to get this next time you are at a Beatles Memorabilia fair, they are really nice. The track list is as follows:

EP No 1: Side 1: Magical Mystery Tour/Your Mother Should Know
Side 2: I am The Walrus

EP No 2: Side 1: The Fool on The Hill/Flying
Side 2: Blue Jay Way.
Is that OK?

You're very welcome, Harbidge. I really didn't think that I'd find it but it proved me wrong.
