Default MFSL (MoFi) question

Hello,

Recently, I purchased a CD-set from a Beatles collector. The set is pictured below. When I purchased the set, I assumed that it was the bootleg set by MFSL (fake). However, according to the seller, this set is one of a very limited number of sets made by MFSL given as an employee holiday gift (not sure what year, but the seller purchased the set from a former employee at a Beatles convention in Los Angeles in 1987). The discs are silver discs (pressed/stamped) with a MFSL sticker-label affixed to the top-side (see 2nd pic below), similar to MFSL album labels. The sleeves (mini-LP) are perfect replicas of MFSL albums. The sound is amazing as, according to the seller, the discs were sourced from the original MFSL tapes (those created from their half-speed mastering process). Anyway, ... does anyone know anything about these CDs?

Regards,
Michael

Hey, I think I have this exact same set. Actually, my set was all stereo. What are the first 4 CDs in your set, mono or stereo? Not sure about the story behind your set, it sounds like a selling pitch to be honest. Mine is a bootleg set for sure, I'll check it out when I get home to see what the CD labels look like. One thing I do remember is that one of the CDs had a glitch, one of the songs had a skip in it, which was truly annoying, it basically ruined the entire thing.

@Jerry: All of the titles in my set are stereo. Which disc/track skipped? Also, what do your labels and sleeves look like compared to mine? Thanks.

Regards,
Michael

I think the giveaway here is if the first 4 UK are in Stereo. I looked online and the set that you guys have is supposed to be pretty top-notch though-- everything replicated beautifully and great fidelity. It's hard to imagine that an MFSL CD collection could/would be issued legitimately in 1987 since that is the first year Beatles CDs were issued in the first place. I'm sure there could be special exceptions, but it's a long shot.

Right, I would say there was no chance this set came out as a legit release in 1987. I can't remember when I got it, maybe the early 2000s or something like that.

My CDs have "Original Master Recording" above the center, with "Promotional Only Not For Sale" below the hole. There is a different release number to the right of the hole. Like instead of MFSL 1-101 for PPM, it's OMR-001. But... each album came with a sticker that you're supposed to put on the CD, and it looks exactly like the label in your picture, with the correct release number, and even the stuff at the top is in a light brown color.

Can't remember where the defect was, I think it was on BFS.

My set also came with Yellow Submarine, not sure if your set includes it. Also, a few of the releases have a gatefold cover - BFS, Sgt. P, MMT, White, LIB.

Here's PPM on BootlegZone...
