Question Things the Beatles did first

Ok, i'll come clean, basically i'm trying to prove to a non-believer that the beatles really aren't overrated.

can anyone think of anything that the beatles invented or did first?

i was thinking they were the first to use backwards guitars on 'i'm only sleping' but i'm not sure that this is true, and it's the only one i can think of right now!

any other suggestions would be great. :)

Introduced the sitar to rock. George helped bring about the Eastern-Western union in music.

Check out the chord arrangements in "I Want to Tell You" and "A Hard Day's Night."

First pop band to have long hair. First band to put out a double album. I'm sure they were the first statistically, you know like most singles & lps sold, longest number one hit on charts, etc., but I don't know the actual figures.

Were they the first rock band to use an orchestra in their music?

Isn't Helter Skelter regarded as the first heavy metal song? See, there, they INVENTED A GENRE.

And I do belive that they were the only band in the early sixties to not suck up to the press, and drink and smoke on camera and such. If I'm wrong, they were probably the only successful band to do so.

First rock band to change their style, and then have many different styles

I think they were? Not so sure though.

By the way welcome to Beatlelinks plabebob!

... they certainly were the ones to change musical styles most often AND be very good (and very succesfull !) in each one !

The nicy-nicy mop-top years, then the more ''contemporary'' years (Rubber Soul), then psychadelic, then back to (a harder form) of rock and roll...

And all that in a span of about six or seven years !

Ah, here's something that, not only The Beatles did first...

... but that will (almost certainly) never be achieved ever again by a rock band:

Having #1's, with four different lead singers !

Heck, take the Rolling Stones... has Keith ever even sung lead on one of their singles ?

At best, a couple of bands may have had two of their singers do it, but three, let alone four ?

And here's another one in the same vein:

Can you think of any other band that saw four of it's members get at least one gold record in their solo careers ?

I can think of a couple that had two (like Genesis...), but all four fabs had a gold record ! *

* Didn't they also each have a #1 single as well ?

Most of the previous posts are correct:

First band to use (intentional) feedback ("I Feel Fine")
First band to have a stadium concert, biggest crowd at the time (55,000 +)
First to print lyrics on cover ("Sgt. Pepper")
First rock double album (White Album)
First heavy metal song (a few possible choices)
First rock group (I believe) to use Moog synthesizer on album ("Abbey Road")

Also:

They were the first--and only-band to have the top 5 spots on the Billboard singles chart simultaneously (April, '64).

First rock band to have hit film ("A Hard Day's Night"), which is still considered by critics to be one of the finest musical comedy films ever.

Then there are things like having a record 73 million viewers in the U.S. for their first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show".

Hell, the list could go on and on...

Made long hair for guys a fashion statement and did a damn good job of it at that!

Brought class to rock - the business suits and Beatle boots made them all the more distinctive.

Didn't The Beach Boys do that in certain songs too? I know they all sang lead but I thought they exchanged the lead solo spot every now and then in certain songs before The Beatles made it big.

Perhapes I'm mistaken.
