Hey; does it have to be an obscure song? 'Cause I was wondering if we could do Vertical Man for today. Whatever you all decide is good, though.

A nice song by Ringo. Sounds pretty much like an ELO song at times.

Vertical Man

Starkey/Hudson/Grakal/Dudas
© Startling Music Ltd/MCA Music/Beef Puppet Music/
Irving Music (Birdie of My Life Music)/Do Dis Music

When the world is coming down on you
And your back's against the wall,
Change the glass that you've been looking through,
It's really half full after all.

If you feel like giving up, (giving up)
If you feel you've had enough,
Let it go,
Don't you know
You can come and kick the bottom out, (bottom out)
Stomp your feet, scream and shout, let it go, let it go.

It's never quite as bad as you think it is,
'Cause ev'ry bad day turns around. (round, round, round)
Forgive yourself for all the things you did,
The verticak man don't lay down. (down, down, down, down, down)

If you feel like giving up, (giving up)
If you feel like you've had enough,
Let it go,
Don't you know
Come on - kick the bottom out, (bottom out)
Stomp your feet, scream and shout, let it go, let it go.

And when the sun comes shining through for you,
You'll discover even rainbows have the blues.
Yes, I know, it's not news to you,
Am I getting through to you?

If you feel like giving up,
Don't you know, life is tough
Let it go, don't you know?
Come on, kick the bottom out,
Scream and shout, let it go, let it go.

If you feel like giving up, (giving up)
If you feel like you've had enough,
Let it go, let it go.

Oo-oo, let it go,
OO-OO, LET IT GO,
Kick the bottom out, scream and shout.
Oo-oo, let it go,
Kick the bottom out, stomp your feet, scream and shout. (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Kick the bottom out, stomp your feet, scream and shout. (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Kick the bottom out, stomp your feet, scream and shout. (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Kick the bottom out, stomp your feet, scream and shout. (it's up to you)
Kick the bottom out,
Kick the bottom out,
Kick the bottom out.

Ah...

Scream and shout! Oh!
(It's the vertical man - the vertical man- out!)
(It's the vertical man - the vertical man- out!)
(It's the vertical man - the vertical man- out!)
(It's the vertical man - the vertical man- out!)
(It's the vertical man - the vertical man- out!)
(It's the vertical man)
(Out!)

Oh, thanks! I was just about to go get the liner notes and type 'em out myself. Great song; isn't it?

If I may, let's do

Who Needs A Heart

written by Ringo and Vini Poncia and I bet they did that whilst listening to the instrumental version of "The Lord Loves The One" by Hari Georgeson,

Bad Boys !!!

because .. well you will hear it.

Good song, and a very funny instrumentation;

Instrumentation:
Ringo Starr - lead vocal, drums
Push-a-lone - lead guitar
Git-tar - rhythm guitar
Hamisch Bisonette - synthesizers
Diesel - bass
Morris Lane - keyboards
Tom of the North - horn arrangements
Featuring Vini Poncia's Peaking Duck Orchestra and Chorus

I only got to know that song a few days ago and I liked it a lot... In fact it's one of the few things I like on the Bad Boy album (the ending, "A Man Like Me" is not that bad either), it's got a catchy melody and good lyrics, much better than other things that he relased during those years.

But now that you mention it, FPSHOT, the melody is almost the same as the one in "The Lord Loves The One..." Which is just very intriguing!

Still, it's a favorite and a track that I would certainly include in a "Best Of Ringo" CD.

Bad Boy was not a super album but some of the tracks do hold merit. "Who Needs A Heart" is definitely one of them.

Who Needs A Heart

Poncia/Starkey

Who needs a heart that is broken in two?
Who needs a dream that's been shattered?
Who cries for more when the joy turns to pain?
You just pretend it never mattered.

(Tell me, who needs a love like yours?)
That is bringing me down?
(And tell me, who sees a love like ours?)
That went wrong from the start?
You have broken my heart,
We're just oceans apart
But still it doesn't matter.

Why does it hurt when you know who's to blame?
Why were the words softly spoken?
Why waste the time when we've been there before?
The ties that bind are almost broken.

(Tell me, who needs a love like yours?)
That is bringing me down?
(And tell me, who sees a love like ours?)
That went wrong from the start?
You have broken my heart,
We're just oceans apart
But still it doesn't matter.

We're just oceans apart
But still it doesn't matter.

Who cries for more when the joy turns to pain?
You just pretend it never mattered,
You just pretend it never mattered.

Who needs a heart that's been shattered?
Who needs a dream that's been broken?
And who needs the words softly spoken?

Yes Sir,

It don't come easy

Just a great song to play

(it donít come easy, you know it donít come easy)
(it donít come easy, you know it donít come easy)

Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it donít come easy
You donít have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy
Forget about the past and all your sorrow
The future wonít last
It will soon be your tomorrow

I donít ask for much, I only want your trust
And you know it donít come easy
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time
And you know it donít come easy
Open up your heart, letís come together
Use a little luck, and we will make it work out better

Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it donít come easy
You donít have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy
Please remember peace is how we make it
Here withing your reach, is your freedom to take it

I donít ask for much, I only want your trust
And you know it donít come easy
(de de de) growing all the time
And you know it donít come easy

Plain text is taken from the book. "Eight Arms To Hold You". Text in italics is my own.

" The recording of Ringo's first serious entry into the world of pop music post Beatles.

It don't come easy began during the sessions for Sentimental Journey in Studio two at EMI on February 18, as "You've gotta Pay Your Dues". Overdubs were recorded on March 11th and later, In October of 1970. "

Two rough mixes from that session were included on a bootleg single, it was released by Midnight Beat in the shape of an apple. I've seen it various times.
The George demo, which is also on various bootlegs, has the back ground s Hara Krishna vocals, mixed up front. For Ringo it's mixed in the back. Ringo suposedly said to George, "You sing about Khrisna, I don't".

I'm just listening to the Ringo album again, and "Devil's woman" jumps up my throat. I didn't really like it at first but it's a nice rocking song, sounds good nonetheless.

So let's hear it for "Devil's Woman".
I am going to close this one btw, and open part 2.
