Harrison in clinic for Brain Tumor operation

It just doesn't stop.

Dutch ceefax reports that George Harrison is being treated for a brain tumor in a Swiss Hospital.

He is in a Bellinzona clinic where a doctor San Giovalli has does cirgury because of a braintumor.

The news comes from a Swiss Newspaper Zonntagszeitung and indeed there is an article on http://www.sonntagszeitung.ch/sz/szF...2&rubrikid=127
which confirms this.

For those who don't read German, it sais that George has been to thiis clinic various times in May and June. There is no further comment on the result and doctors have not commented on this to the newspaper because of their privacy agreement, so it has not yet been confirmed.

It also sais that George has rented a house nearby in an Italian place called Luino and is driven to the clinic by a driver and they even change number plates frequently from Swiss to Italian.

Again it is a non-confirmed story, but it does scare me.

Beatles guitarist let his tumor be treated in the renowned institute for
cancer of the hospital in Bellinzona. The director of the institute, FR
national council and party head Franco Cavalli, does not disclaim
appropriate rumours, but does not want however because of the secrecy to
specify further.

The 58-jahrige George Harrison was at the end of May and also in June
regularly in the Tessin.

As at the end of May in Bellinzona the Beatles Days took place and on
different Beatles Days took place and on different blow-out of the city

they saying George has kept this quiet because of some sort of Beatles

treatment in the Tessin.

As was reported from the surrounding field of the hospital personnel, the
ex-Beatle was to have been treated in Bellinzona because of a brain tumor
with cobalt. Which could lead to a dramatic degradation
of its state of health.

" If the patient is suffering from cancer forms tumours, as for instance in
the brain, must one assume the life expectancy is clearly reduced?

says " Daniel Zwahlen, from the hospital for radio Oncology of the
Universitatsspitals in Zurich.
"The position of recovery is practically hopeless". (I don't agree Ringo's
daughter had a brain tumour and I used to work in a hospital and several
patients recovered fully)

George Harrison had a cancer like growth removed from his lung at the
beginning of May of this yearly at the Mayo hospital in Rochester in the US
Federal State Minnesota. The operation ran successfully, mentioned at that
time the British lawyer of the ex-Beatle, Nicholas
Valner. Afterwards Harrison as well as its wife Olivia Arias went to
Tuscany to recover and recuperate.
"I do not have a plan to die ", said Harrison. According to the British
newspaper " DAILY Mail " the operation removed almost half of a lung ".
After the operation he was flown inthe private airplane by actor Jim Carrey
(" The Truman Show ") to Milan.

Whether the guitarist is still treated in the cancer center by Bellinzona,
is unclear. A physician says, Harrison visits the irradiation center
regularly, he is not however situated permanently
in the hospital.

Other sources disagree and assume, Harrison left in the meantime, for
Hawaii, where he has possesed a house for years.
The cancer suffering of Harrison had already begun 1997. In the Princess
Margaret hospital in Windsor he was treated because of a cancerous growth in
the larynx, which was away-operated allegedly in the hospital. At the Royal
Marsden hospital in London he exposed
himself thereafter twice to an irradiation treatment. " I have the cancer
certainly from smoking.", said Harrison at that time. " years ago I gave
up, then I began again. "

At the end of of 1999 George Harrison of scarcely survived an assassination
attempt. That 33-year old fan Michael Abram broke in at that time to the
house of the guitarist in Oxfordshire outside of London. Harrison tried to
fight back. Abram stabbed him in the chest causing his lung to collapse .
George Harrison recovered whole never from this event. (I'm not sure if they
mean physically or mentally by not recovering whole here?) A court found the
attacker not guilty because of insanity.

A further development in Hawaii points to the aggravation of Harrisons
illness. The musician settled a legal battle with his neighbours on June
19th (actually it was reported on June the 19th but it was settled on June
7th). Over the property of Harrison on Maui runs a path to the Pacific
ocean. At the beginning of the nineties-the ex-Beatle began to forbid the
use of the path To protect his privacy. In Hawaii a court gave the
neighbours of Harrison permission to use the path finally in 1993. But
Harrison continued to draw the case - up to the agreement out of court. to
close the path. Harrison paid to keep. The details of the agreement
secret, said Harrisons lawyer Paul Alston told the " Herald News service ".
The representative of the neighbours, Kyle Coffman, said to the media: "
one looks at the state of health of Harrison, understands why he wanted to
terminate the controversy so quickly. "

Thank you for translating the article. I found it very unsettling and I will certainly be praying for George and his immediate family.

The most recent reports are not encouraging and this latest update is alarming and upsetting to say the least. Last month when Paul McCartney was on the Larry King Show he naturally didn't want to disclose anything about George's health issues. I remember thinking that if George was not facing serious health issues, Paul would have enthusiastically reported an improvement or any other encouraging news. He wisely refrained from making a comment and said that it was up to George what he wanted disclosed about his illness. I found myself thinking about that again today.

One can only hope and pray for the man's recovery. George has certainly given a lot to the world at large and the mark he has left on the world is indelible and relevant.

ZURICH (Reuters) - Ex-Beatle George Harrison has been treated for a brain tumor in a Swiss cancer hospital in Bellinzona, the Sonntagszeitung newspaper said on Sunday.

The paper said Franco Cavalli, cancer specialist and parliamentary floor leader for the Socialist Party, did not deny he was treating the 58-year old guitarist at the San Giovanni hospital but declined to give
details.

According to Sonntagszeitung, Harrison was in Bellinzona in the Italian-speaking south of Switzerland during May and June for radiotherapy.

The paper said Harrison had rented a house in Luino in Italy, a 40-minute drive from Bellinzona, during the treatment. Harrison's lawyer and his spokeswoman had no comment on the treatment, it added.

The paper said Harrison received cobalt radiation. In May, he had a cancer-like sore removed from his lungs in the Mayo hospital in Rochester, United States.

The Sonntagszeitung said it was not clear whether Harrison was still being treated in Bellinzona or had returned to his house in Hawaii.

No one at the hospital or at Harrison's record company in London was available for comment on the report.

George Harrison is being treated in a Swiss cancer clinic.

A statement is expected to be released on Monday.

The former Beatle recently underwent surgery for cancer.

"For two weeks the local press have been publishing the news that he is being treated at our institute, and we have not denied that," said Dr Franco Cavalli, director of the oncology institute for southern Switzerland in Bellinzona.

"That is all we have to say for the time being. We expect to issue a press release tomorrow morning."

It was learned in May that Harrison, 58, had undergone surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to remove a cancerous growth from one of his lungs.

A statement from his solicitor said the operation had been completely successful and he had made an excellent recovery.

He went to Tuscany, Italy, to recover with his wife Olivia.

Harrison was also treated for throat cancer in 1997.

He was gardening at his Oxfordshire mansion when he first noticed there was something wrong in July that year.

You're right, Beatlebangs -- I remember thinking the same thing when I saw Paul on Larry King last month -- that if the news about George had been good, he would have been a lot more forthcoming. The fact remains, too, that Paul and George had not gotten on all that well recently, despite some outward appearances -- and yet when George returned from the Mayo Clinic, Paul went running to Italy to see him...something in me says that Paul may have gotten a call that things were not good and went, not only to see George and wish him well, but also to perhaps make peace with him...I shudder to think about that...

Harrison 'has more cancer treatment'

Former Beatle George Harrison has undergone more cancer treatment in a Swiss clinic, a newspaper has reported.
Swiss paper Sonntagszeitung said the musician was treated for a brain tumour in a cancer hospital in the south of the country.

Harrison, whose life was threatened when he was stabbed by an intruder in 1999, has had two previous known cancer scares.

Swiss cancer specialist Franco Cavalli did not deny he had treated Harrison at the San Giovanni hospital in Bellinzona, but declined to give details, Sonntagszeitung said.

Harrison, 58, underwent radiotherapy in May and June, according to the paper.

It was revealed in May that the star had surgery for lung cancer in the United States.

He was said to have made an "excellent recovery" at the time.

The operation in Rochester, Minnesota, had been completely successful, a statement said.

The star was also treated for throat cancer in Britain in 1997 after he found a lump on his neck, which he described at the time as "a warning".

'Smoking'

He had surgery in August that year, followed by two courses of radiation therapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital near London, the UK's leading cancer treatment centre.

He later said: "I got it purely from smoking. I gave up cigarettes many years ago, but had started again for a while and then stopped in 1997.

"Luckily for me they found that this nodule was more of a warning than anything else."

The guitarist and songwriter was almost killed in December 1999 after being stabbed 10 times by an intruder at his home, resulting in treatment for a punctured lung.

The assailant, Michael Abram was detained indefinitely at a secure hospital after a jury decided he was insane.

The former Beatle made a full recovery from the attack and gave evidence to Oxford Crown Court saying: "I believed I had been fatally stabbed."

Speaking earlier this year, Harrison said: "I had a little throat cancer. I had a piece of my lung removed in 1997. And then I was almost murdered.

"But I seem to feel stronger. I don't smoke any more. I'm a little more short of breath than I used to be, so I don't see myself on stage lasting a full 14 rounds."

In 1998, the News of the World newspaper quoted Harrison as saying his first brush with the disease made him think about how tenuous life could be. He compared it to "a raindrop on a lotus leaf".

George has been through more problems in the last 5 years than most people do in a lifetime. All our prayers are with you George and are wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.

I, too normally subscribe to "no news is good news," but when somebody's health is the issue, then that adage does not apply.

Nothing in my local paper has been said about George, so basically all the information I have been getting is from the Internet. It is a good thing we have boards like this so we can feel a sense of unity at a time like this. Prayers for George are being said.

I just hope that George's comments appear to be relaxing for the future.

As linked in the previous post, George has made a statement;

Former Beatle George Harrison has said he is "feeling fine" after a successful course of radiotherapy at hospital in Switzerland.

A statement from Harrison's solicitor revealed that the former Beatle underwent treatment at the hospital in Bellinzona over a month ago, the UK Press Association reported.

The statement said Harrison had a course of radiotherapy at the clinic and that doctors do not see any need for further treatment at the hospital.

Harrison said: "I am feeling fine and I am really sorry for the unnecessary worry which has been caused by the reports appearing in today's press. Please do not worry."

So, for now we can relax as it seems. Additional comments are likely to follow.
