Default "It Don't Come Easy" & "Let It Rain"

I was just humming "It Don't Come Easy" in my head when I realized I was also humming "Let It Rain" by Eric Clapton! (the verses).

I know George and Eric were together a lot while each other's songs were being written in the late 60's/early 70's... and George was always one of those "borrower" songwriters. I guess "Let It Rain" was in his head while he was writing "I Don't Come Easy" for Ringo.

Yeah, but I prefer the way George sang "It Don't Come Easy.

If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times. George's version is the one I prefer. I think he sang it better, that's all.

Here is a better musical version of George doing the song It Don't Come Easy.

From the early download days at Napster I remember these two versions were circling around and I thought they were differnt, however this one hear has the right speed whereas the other one is slower and less clear of sound. However the images with this one are not so nice, sorry for that.

Believe it or not, I like Ringo's vocals on his version, he sings the song with a little more power than George and the song just feels like a Ringo song though we know who really wrote it - granted my nostalgic bias may have a lot to do with my opinion.

Yeah, it does feel more like a Ringoesque song, but I prefer George's vocals and feel he did a better job on the song. That is just my honest opinion.

With a lot of imagination I can indeed hear some of the same sound in the singing, but not music wise.

I do understand what you mean about George and Eric. They spent a lot of time together in early 1970.

Let It Rain is composed by Eric and Bonnie Bramlett ( Bonnie is from Delayne & Bonnie who Eric and George toured with in that period. Then when Bonnie and Delayne got in to personal problems their band sort of fell apart. Eric was making his “Eric Clapton” album where this song is on and from there went along with George for the All Things Must Pass sessions where he took his Dominoes with, so all this does fall in to pieces. I do read though that Ringo started working on this song as “got to pay your dues” in February 1970 with the Sentimental Journey sessions.

But about the borrowing I tend to not really agree. When you lay George’s version of It Don’t Come Easy you can hear the difference. Ringo’s singing of the song became much more like the monotone voice he had, keeping a sot of horizontal tune in his voice which also is heard on Let It Rain, where George in his version sang more in a melody format.

I agree with kmac. Maybe it's because it was best-known as a Ringo track and it is seered into my brain that way.... and George's version sounds like an out-take.

Regardless, I think Ringo sings it better.

For the main verse portions of both songs, it doesn't take too much imagination to hear the similarities. The chords are the same and both songs' melody lines are effortlessly sung on top of one another.

Of course, both tracks totally stray from each other eventually and become different songs.

I had a live recording of Let It Rain when I analysed this first but now having the studio recording on yeah, apart from the chorus there is indeed a similar built up in chords as in singing, so yeah I agree.

May I add that I think Eric stole some real Harrison guitar sounds in the solo and middle part?

George's IS an out-take (probably a demo in all likelihood); all that was done was wipe George's vocal and Ringo added his.

Funny you should say this, when i was traveling home earlier this evening i was listening to Let it rain by Eric in my mp3 player in the train . and i was thinking , George could have written this . Same sort of style and melody.
And now i see your message . I think we are thinking the same here.
