Beatles-A-Rama!!! debuts on the App Store

You famously can't buy Beatles songs on iTunes - or indeed any digital music store.

The Fab Four's back catalogue is available on physical formats only for now, aside from an extremely limited-edition USB apple released last year.

However, you CAN now stream Beatles songs on your iPhone, courtesy of a US app called Beatles-A-Rama!!!

(The exclamation marks are part of the name - it's not that I'm furiously excited while writing this).

The app costs $3.99 (App Store link), and is an offshoot of an existing internet radio station of the same name. It streams Beatles songs and related tracks - for example solo output - over 3G, Wi-Fi or EDGE.

Because it's streaming radio, there's no ability to choose tracks on-demand, or even skip the ones you don't like.

There's even a 'Buy Song' button. One that will presumably remain unused for the actual Beatles tracks played on the station.

The app is also available on the UK App Store for £2.39.

I read last night that Beatles-A-Rama has a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It sounds like a dream-come-true, but I did wonder about its abilities. I know that I was excited when I got the Pandora app on my iPhone, but I also quickly realized that it didn't work with car adapters unless it was plugged in like a headphone jack. I assume that the same goes for this app as well. [The good news about that kind of car adapter is that it thinks it is headphones, so you can even play songs from the YouTube app if you don't have the song, lol.]

Needless to say, I'm going to have to retire my cordless adapter that plugs into the bottom of my phone for the kind that works like a headphone jack...Pandora made me strongly consider it, but the thought of having B-A-R in the car now makes it mandatory, hahaha...but I also know that it's not satellite radio like Pandora. I checked it out and it says it needs WiFi, 3G, or Edge. I'm thankful my phone has 3G! If it only used WiFi, listening in the car wouldn't be an option.

Anyway, this is a great new way of listening to the lads, but I did want to point out the adapter problems and the connection issues for those of you who might want to save your $3.99 if you can't use it in the car. [If you're not in the car, most people will be near a computer, and therefore the app wouldn't be needed.] Anyway...THANK YOU, PAT MATTHEWS!
