John and QVC
I was channel surfing last night and saw an ad on QVC (a home shopping channel, for those of you who might not know) and they're doing an hour tomorrow of John Lennon jewelry in the afternoon.
I will refrain from editorial comment other than to say that I think some of the jewelry is really nice (if quite pricey for what you get) and I'm not an anti-TV shopping snob, but....QVC? Sigh.

Yoko authorizes it. She has the rights to John's estate. I'm not saying I agree with it, but she's the one who authorizes it. I guess it's no worse than putting his drawings on baby clothes and soft toys -- which I admit I bought for my son when he was little, including the stuffed bunny rabbit that is STILL his favorite toy.
I've seen some of the jewelry and it's nice enough, but pricey. The gold pieces particularly are outrageously expensive, IMO. And QVC makes sense, actually, it's a good way to get the designs out there to the masses. Those home shopping channels sometimes have really nice jewelry.

Re: John and QVC
What's the big woof? Are there Beatlelinkers that did not know that there was John Lennon jewelry being sold? This product has been sold at The Fest For Beatles Fans for years and is available online. Their prices are about the same as QVC, some cost more, some less. It is expensive because it is not junk.

Re: John and QVC
I'm not really into the vibe of selling anything John-related on QVC, but that jewelry is SO cute! No, beyond cute...I may even want some of those things. So I'm such a hypocrite about the whole thing, really.

Holy crap! I think John Lennon Jewellery is NICE, and it's a GOOD idea. However, the price is WOWZERS, nothing I can really afford. But if I could, I would buy some of my own.
The commercials for Ringo, if Ringo wants to do them, that's fine. However, if they're USING Ringo for FAME and MONEY thennnnn... I would definately disapprove of it.

Re: John and QVC
My boyfriend Steve got me the sliver Imagine ring for Christmas this year. (I know, 'cause he made me try it on.) He's so thoughtful. Last year, he got me one of those Abbey Road blankets. Anyway, the ring is really nice.

Re: John and QVC
I have to choose between the two cuff bracelets. I love the ring too, but I can't have everything. I feel so vulgar pining over purchasing jewelry that was made without John's consent. Of course I don't want to know what he would think...probably something funny. But still, its SO beautiful. Its not like its hurting anyone, though I would feel much better if the proceeds were going to some kind of worldwide charity. Maybe they are. I'll check up on that. Anyone know?

Re: John and QVC
I like the items though I don't own any of them. I, too, have seen them before. I think it's cool & while I don't think everything Yoko does is necessary, I think it's awesome that John is still so "alive" after all these years & I do think she's had a hand in that. She's always been committed to him & their message of peace & love. If she can keep that going... good! Because the message is still the same how as it was then... all you need is love!

Re: John and QVC
*Sigh* Ahd WHY did they have to do the special sale on the 8th?? If they MUST why not October 9th?? I really dread next year because you KNOW the media will make an oggling memorium like they did on Elvis' "25th" HELLO! Could we Celebrate LIFE and his WORK please! That's why I'm always taking the 9th of October NEVER the 8th of December.
Oh yes the jewelry? (pardon me ranting up there)
Whatever-okay, if it's tasteful (seems to be). Not my cuppa tea though, but if ya like it- then there it is for ya! I admit though, I wear a name ring, nothing fancy, and it is the only obvious thing I wear on a regualr basis declaring my affection for John. And though it speaks loud and clear its meaning to Beatle Fans most people I know and work with are clueless of its meaning if they even notice I am wearing it.
Anyroad, could be worse mates...have you seen some of the trashy Elvis things?? Living in a predominantly Elvis market (the south) I see more than my share of tacky, cheapie Elvis goodies. I bet they sell that stuff on QVC too. Kinda glad John's escaped a lot of that, though tomorrow never knows...

Re: John and QVC
Dr. D.,
I agree with everything you've just said. I would much rather celebrate John's life and think about what he has accomplished and how he remains a good, strong cultural influence even to this day. It worries me too that next December 8th will be like what happened in 2002 on the anniversary of Elvis Presley's passing.
