Ringo Says Beatles Were Not A 'Boy Band' Like Today's Male Pop Groups
Wed Mar 26,10:00 PM ET
Darryl Morden
Ringo Starr appeared Tuesday (March 25) on MTV's TRL show for the release of his latest album Ringo Rama. The program is geared towards young contemporary pop fans, and Starr compared the height of "Beatlemania" in the 1960s to the fan reaction for contemporary "boy bands" like *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys.
Starr said the groups are very different, however. He said that starting out, the four Beatles were certainly "boys and we were a band," and also admitted that early on, the group also didn't write all of their own material. But then he commented that once John Lennon and Paul McCartney began writing songs--and George Harrison as well--"it became that the song was important, not our dancing."
Starr was making a bit of a joke, as the Beatles were never a dancing group.
Starr kicks off his 2003 All-Starr Band tour on July 24 in Rama, Ontario, Canada.

I don't know- the screaming girls? the pin-ups? Cute quips? Singing harmony? OF COURSE they were a "boy band." It's just that two of the boys were Lennon and McCartney- who developed into two of the greatest songwriters of the century.
Who CAN compare with Lennon and McCartney? No one- even the Bee Gees, who came the closest, are just a whisper of the two lads. But they were still a boy band in the beginning. All the songs were love songs- and if you remember- Lennon said that not one of them alone could have made it, that all four were different, so girls could get into at least one of them and they could mop up them all. It's just that Boy Band is now a term of derision so Ringo wants to disassociate himself with it.

Both VH1 and MTV have been using Richie Unterberger's excellent All Music Guide’s long Beatles biography as their Beatles biography they both used to not have a very good biography of The Beatles. Here are great Beatles biographies that totally debunk this totally stupid, inaccurate, ludicrous, ridiculous myth that they were ever a ‘’boy band’’!
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-b...4032/biography
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles
The Beatles own documentary The Beatles Anthology
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJcz...czmuZ-OeU#t=13
The great 1982 Beatles documentary,The Complete Beatles narrated by award winning British actor Malcolm McDowell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG8G...BDD651&index=2
And any great reputable accurate Beatles biography would debunk this ludicrous, stupid myth. And I have *never* read or heard *any* legitimate serious rock critics or rock music journalists describe them this way and for extremely great reasons!
