The Inner Light
This is one of my favorite songs of Georges, it provokes in me thoughts of hot Indian plains and goat herders for some reason, maybe the pipe at the beginning.
Any of you have thoughts on this song?

Oh yes I like this song too, Everytime I listen to it I feel that George has transported me to another place. It's a beautiful song, music and lyrics, and George sounds so wise and ancient like an Indian God. The Inner Light is definitely one of my favorites of George's.

An excellent number by George,I think the lyrics were influenced by The Tao Te Ching.I love that line "Arrive without Traveling",also its interesting to contrast George's sitar playing on it with his earlier work on Norwegian Wood(This Bird has Flown)a personal favorite of mine and yet one can see George has come a long way in his playing in the 2 and a half years between the songs. It strikes me that on 'Norwegian Wood' he is using an eastern instrument in a very western style but by the time one gets to 'The Inner Light' it is a much more eastern in its style, flavor, and its lyrics for that matter.Granted in the case of Norwegian Wood he was playing on John's song but its amazing how much he has delved into this, very interesting.

It took me a while to get used to this song, but after hearing it a few more times i grew to like it.

Same here.
It definately is a unique sounding Beatle track, and that is saying something.

The first time I ever heard "The Inner Light" was when I bought the "Rarities" album back in 1979. The fact that it was a "new" song for me made it all the more interesting.
I, too, love the lyrics. But my favorite part is the little harmony bit that Paul and John threw in at the very end.
The version on the U.S. "Rarities" is different from the one on "Past Masters", no?

The version on "Rarities" is the mono verson, which is a slightly different mix. I hear the difference mostly in the intro.

It's been so long since I've heard the "Rarities" version, but yeah... I think the intro is different. One of the versions has a more "condensed" into, if I recall correctly.
