I really enjoy holiday music and because I'm not in the shops everyday, I can pretty much control how often I listen to it. Unfortunately, my Christmas cds were taken when my house was robbed last month, so we will be listening to one of the Christmas music stations this year when we decorate our tree.
I don't think I have a favorite Christmas song, but I probably enjoy the traditional Carols over all others.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do
I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too
(Short Music Interlude)
Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian
(Short Music Interlude)
There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

Ah, I had forgotten... Ringo has a GREAT holidays album. It's one of his best, really, and often overlooked because... well because it is a holidays album after all. But "Come On Christmas, Christmas Come On" and "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" are two great songs; and he even performs a George imitation in the final track "Pax Um Biscum". Pick it up if you like holiday music, at least this is good. Called I Wanna Be Santa Claus for all those who didn't know.
And I'm darn serious about this.

Christmas songs are awesome. I start listening near the end of October. Some of my favorite carols are: Sivler Bells, Silver and Gold, Carol of the Bells, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Jingle Bell Rock,I'll be Home for Christmas, Blue Christmas, and Last Christmas. Amazingly, most people have never heard "Last Christmas". I just heard Jimmy Eat World's version of it over the weekend, they do a great job on it surprisingly.

I dislike most "rock" versions of standard Christmas songs too. I do like the church choir's rendition of Christmas staples and love the Advent/Christmas masses.
I LOVE the Kinks' song and the "Hippo" song, above. That Hippo song is such a panic!

Has nobody mentioned "All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle" by Dora Brian?

Cute Beatle themed Christmas song - I also love the Beatles' Christmas album.
As for traditional holiday music, I do get sick of it after a while. It's like condiments - a little bit is fine, but taking a direct hit over a prologed period can cause adverse effects.

Oh yeah! Another vote for this album - I love it and the last few years that I've had a tree (not last year...not sure about this year...), it's been my "tree putting up" album, along with spiked hot chocolate! Check it out if you can find it, it's really a lot of fun!

I like Holiday Music a lot. But yer right, after a while it gets to you. The Christmas mix they play at the store where i work plays the same ones all the time! And they're all traditional ones from the 40's 50's and 60's. Plus they have like 5 different versions of the same songs! So i hear about the same 20 songs 5 different ways all the time. It's kind of irritating. Yesterday I played my Twisted Christmas cd (anyone who's familiar with the song The 12 Pains of Christmas may know what i'm talking about), which is really amusing! Especially the song "The Restroom Door said Gentlemen" (sung to God rest ye merry gentlemen)!

I'm so sick of "Jingle Bells" and I hate "Jingle Bell Rock." I also hate "Rudolf."
I love the parodies of Christmas songs like the ones you mentioned above, LL.
Still, it doesn't take long to tire of Christmas carols.
From a Peanuts cartoon:
Linus is smiling away at a record player while Lucy grimaces from an armchair. Lucy grimaces in all of the panels and finally runs from the room screaming, "I can't stand it any more!" Linus replies, "What's the matter? Don't you LIKE Christmas carols?"
I understand how Lucy felt.

I love Christmas music! But my favorite is Ringo's "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" CD. (Duh, no surprise there!) and of course the other Beatle-y ones (Wonderful Christmastime, Happy Xmas, etc) - But I have other favorites as well. My most-played album around this time (other than Ringo's) is one called "The Beatmas", which is Christmas songs in the style of Beatles music. I also like Sting's "Gabriel's Message", "Do They Know it's Christmas" by Band-Aid, "Old Toy Trains" by Glen Campbell, and "2000 Miles" by the Pretenders.

Yeah, we love this one, too! We play it each year during gift opening on Christmas morning.
Manheim Steamroller has pretty good Christmas music, too.

I pity the poor workers of big stores who have to work with this musical torture playing around their heads all day. To each his own.

Tell me about it.
I do love either Bing Crosby or Andy Williams' Do You Hear What I Hear?
That song is devastating, just floors me.

I love Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms--it had a nice little rock-a-billy thing going on. (I also like his version of You Are My Special Angel. He was a country singer. I guess you don't like country-ish things, eh?)
Can't stand Jingle Bells either, and how many versions of Sleigh Ride do we need, I ask you?

I love Christmas music. I grew up listening to Amy Grant's Christmas albums, so hers are my fave, but other than that I just love all the really great old stuff by people like Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Brenda Lee, etc. And of course, I love Paul's "Wonderful Christmastime" and John's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)". Oh, and all the Beatles Christmas specials. Those are great! "Matches, candles, matches, candles". ;)
