Snoopy, Lizzie's book is about her days as a teenager hanging out with other Scruffs at Apple, Abbey Road, Paul's house on Cavendish, etc. She's a huge John fan and has nothing but lovely stories to tell about him. She posts frequently on various Beatles-related blogs, sharing her memories and identifying random people in photos. She's a very sweet person and I'm sure er book will be wonderful!

sorry it was another girl with the autographed lp and some folks question it's validity...tried to post a pic..could not so will post link to log..seems the girl's cat "peed" on it...how does that happen to a treasue..??

Oh my... that should have been protected in cat pee-proof plastic at the very least... better yet, behind glass!

I have an aunt who saw The Fabs at the Hollywood Bowl in '64 and '65 and she once gave me her scrapbook. I was about 13 at the time... I put it in my bookshelf and then we had these horrible rains and the roof leaked right over my bookshelf and the scrapbook got all stuck together... My aunt was furious at me! But it was just a silly scrapbook... imagine if my dog Lucy had peed on an autographed Abbey Road!

i know...my son got robert plant to sign a disc when he was in town at the blues museum...my son got it signed and shook his hand..he was happy about that...so i....shook my son's hand ...good enough for me.

This fan was drawn in 1979 by John Lennon in Tokyo, Japan at the world famous Copa Cabana Club. Local studio musician and songwriter, Dan Bates, was playing in Tokyo in '79 at the Copa. One evening, John Lennon walked in with Yoko Ono, Yoko's brother and a friend. They were seated directly in front of the band and right in front of Dan Bates.

The club manager came over to Bates and told him to talk to and be friendly to John Lennon and his party.

One hostess was selected just to cater to that table (which is part of how this high-end club handles it service). During the course of the evening, John took the hostess' fan and began drawing on it - painstakingly-slow. Carefully, John drew each line from (fan) hole to hole — almost as if it were some sort of a dot-to-do picture puzzle. John held the fan up very close to his face to try to view it ever so carefully.

This period (in John's life) was supposedly one of the happiest of times for him in a long time. John's behavior was "spacey" almost as if he were on a perpetual acid trip.

When Lennon finished drawing on the fan, he gave it to their hostess. The hostess was a good friend of Dan Bates and the photograph above was taken and brought back to Fresno over twenty-five years ago.

During the evening, Dan, at one point, turned directly to John Lennon and said, "would you like to hear Twist and Shout?" Lennon replied (in his thick Liverpool accent), "nooo... not particuuuulllarly." That song was a huge hit in Japan and the club manager insisted Bates and his band played it anyway — which they did. Lennon applauded louder than anyone for the bands work and nodded with great approval.

John told Dan Bates, during one of the breaks that, "all musicians are my friend."

Lennon loved music passionately and truly respected other players and artists simply for that fact that they were indeed musicians as well.

OMG... I love it. I just...wish I could have experienced meeting him.

Two charming anecdotes by regular gals who lucked upon a brush with greatness.

# 1 ~ Susan Madris:

In 1972, my husband and I were waiting on a long movie line in NYC. A small woman broke into the line politely to purchase a pack of cigarettes at a vender stand. As we parted to let her through, we realized it was Yoko. Yoko! That meant John was close by. Sure enough, he was standing on line about 5 people ahead of us. When the line moved, we moved fast and snagged a seat right behind them. John talked throughout the movie and included us in his conversation. I was totally starstruck and could not say a word. Since then, I have often thought of what to say to him. No words can express the way I feel about his music, his love of peace and his influence on me and my generation. I always think of my encounter with John and how friendly he was, and I always wish I had the courage to tell him how I felt.

...I can just picture John chatting away throughout the whole film.


#2 ~ Kathy Roeder:

I was at a now defunct Cuban restaurant on Columbus Ave. in the the late 1970s. The only other customers on that gray, cold, February day were John Lennon and Yoko Ono. I was grousing to my friend--a writer--about how hard it was to write. He had an appointment and left and I was alone with John and Yoko pretending not to notice them. HA. John Lennon spoke, "Writing's not that hard luv, you just put your pen to the paper and do it!" Oh dear, dear John I need your advice more than ever now.

Here's another:

In the 1970's I was plying my photography trade, and taking photos of children, informal, candid black and white pictures. I was hired to take some photos of a holiday party at a small "unknown" private school whose students were in many cases children of celebrities who preferred to keep their kids away from the intrusive paparazzi. I was waiting until the parents were all in attendance, when who walked up to me, noting my camera equipment, but JOHN LENNON, I was stunned and amazed, he smiled I smiled I said hello and he said "are you the queen's photographer?" I said yes and laughed and almost fainted at my good fortune. Of course I took photos of all of the families as the children gave their parents the hand-made gifts. And I took a wonderful photo of John, Yoko and Sean that has never to this day been published. Nor has Yoko ever seen it. I guess maybe it's time.

Ummm, yeah... I'd say it's time!

OMG, Maia, wherever you are getting this, thank you for taking the time to share these. Some of the fan encounters just tear me up. And I so talk through movies sometimes- ugh, my friends think I am annoying. If John did it, I would forget whatever the movie I was watching was and just listen to his voice...

Before the last hearing occurred at the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service, I was in John and Yoko's apartment in the Dakota and accompanied him and Yoko to the hearing. At the time, as we were leaving the apartment he took a leaf off the plant that was in the foyer and placed it in his lapel. I asked John why don’t you take a flower why just the leaf. John said to me you must look at everything as a whole not just what shines and the leaf is as beautiful as the flower. John had wonderful ideas and a deep understanding of people and what makes the world go round. Many musicians and entertainers come and go but John left his impression on all of us and he is missed to this day.
