Yes, he says some nice things about John. He even says Yoko was sexy (although he makes it sound as if she were trying to seduce him...well, he does seem to have the type of physical look that evidently attracts her: Lean, tallish, myopic, with wavy brownish hair (Cox had those features and so did that Hungarian guy, Havadtoy, as well as John).

Yeah, those guys wish they were as gorg as John.
Oh wait a minute, we're not in the "Beautiful thread." Um, I'm going to read further along on this encounter but I did love what Maia posted. I like details! I'm a detail kind of person. What can I say?

Encounters with John
Here is a wonderful story written by Lisa Grand. It was published in the Winter 1990 issue of the London Beatles fan club magazine. It is a real joy to read. What precious memories Lisa has of the times she met John and Yoko. (The photos do not directly go with the story. I do not believe Lida took photos or asked for an autograph.)
Bless you, wherever you are…

Yes, nice details but if you go to the guy's site he also claims John flew him to Bermuda in the summer of 1980. I think he fabricated that story. Why would you fly out the guy who takes care of your houseplants to Bermuda? I can see him flying Freddy, but why this Tree guy?
I think the motivation here is $$$. He starts out nice enough but the stories get weirder with every chapter and it sounds like he got a lot of detail from Old Freddy.

Yes, that's a really lovely story. Glad you enjoyed that one, too, Snoopy... because the girls really loved Yoko and they shared so many details about how sweetly J & Y interacted with each other.

From the very enjoyable Meet the Beatles for Real blog:
John Goes to John’s
First published in the April/May 1976 Issue of “TheWrite Thing”
By Jim Marazzo from St. Paul, Minnesota
Quote:
One afternoon in my beach house in Ventura, Calif. (in ’72) as I was writing a song, my roommate ran up the stairs shouting John Lennon and Yoko were at John’s, a seaside restaurant. We, like made (sic), dashed over there and found him and Yoko playing pool. He was in good spirits at the time, cracking jokes.
Then people started asking him to play some songs, he said he hadn’t any guitar. So somebody said he had one close by and he’d run and get it. John said, “OK, lad, off with you.” He returned with is guitar moments later, John took it and said, “I see a piano here someone play with me.” I had a camera with me so I took a picture. About three people, including my friend Charlie (the one at the piano in the picture), dashed forward for the piano, and Charlie got there first. Little did John know that there happened to be two people there who knew EVERY chord to every Beatles and post-Beatle song (me & Charlie). Well here we were in Calif. Two struggling musicians influenced greatly by the masters: Lennon and McCartney (Beethoven & Chopin, etc)…
Standing and playing piano with John Lennon. Lennon shouted out “Revolution, key of A.” With acoustic guitar he did the first guitar lick and where Paul screams on the record Charlie took Paul’s part. Lennon and Yoko did an about face in amazement and looked stunned. During the song he’d yell to Charlie, “really rockin’ Lad.” It made me feel really good to hear that. Charlie knew all the chords. They played songs like, “Give peace a chance,” “Roll over Beethoven,” “In my life,” “Woman is the Nigger of the World,” “Luck of the Irish,” “New York City,” and “Imagine.”
When it was all over he went out, us along with him. He said I wish we could have had some electric guitars, it would have been a gas. We said ya. As we just stood there looking at each other in silence for awhile, he said, “well, bye Lads, bye.” We felt like saying, take us with you. But the dream was over. Fast……..

Snoopy and Scruffie... yeah, I know, what an experience! What's interesting is that Ventura is a smallish city about an hour north of L.A. with nothing too interesting except for a cute (now) Main Street and the beach... I wonder what J & Y were doing there? On their way back from San Francisco?

I would think so! Just shooting the breeze, checking out the scene. Love that they were so open to new things and experiences.

I didn't know where else to put this, even though it wasn't 1970-1980 period, but one of the famous Apple Scruffs words on John:

this is something i found snoopy..
think this from wikipedia..
"John's offering for the new single was the philosophical ' Across The Universe', begun this day and completed on the 8th. Six takes were recorded (there was no take three, so these were numbered one to seven) between 2.30 and 5.30, then - with John considering himself best pleased with take seven - the Beatles began an 8.00 pm-2.00 am session overdubbing onto this.
But after John had taped his vocal contribution, recorded with the machine running slow to play back fast, he and Paul realised that the song lacked falsetto harmonies. Finding two female singers on a Sunday evening without prior arrangement would usually have been impossible, but for the Beatles all they had to do was step outside the front of EMI Studios and invite inside two of the many fans who congregated there whenever the Beatles were recording. Paul did just this, selecting Lizzie Bravo, a 16-year-old from Brazil temporarily living close to Abbey Road, and Gayleen Pease, 17, a Londoner, who were naturally thrilled at being the only fans ever invited to contribute to a Beatles recording. Once the girls had taped their "nothing's gonna change our world" high harmonies they left the studio so that the Beatles could record more overdubs."
