Beatles Reunion Was In Progress

I remember the entire "Beatles Reunion" gag when it first ran on SNL and absolutely loved it. Absolutely broke me up the way they kept carrying it on week after week and needless to say it would'ntve surprised me one single bit if John and Paul actually showed up to "collect", cos that sort of silliness was right up their alley...not only that, they both probably would've gotten a kick out of the way people would've reacted. Can you just imagine it? It wouldn've surprised me in the least if we suddenly witnessed the Players, the staff and half the audience fainting dead away with the shock...and that's not even counting what would happen to the tv audience watching the damned thing. It would most definitely have been considered one of the top ten television moments of all time, and in hindsight a very bittersweet moment for all of us who grieved so for John just a few years later.

I don't know about Paul, but John was asked about the SNL thing by David Sheff (the Playboy interview) in the summer of 1980. John answered by telling Sheff the story about how Paul and John saw that show together at John's house and the two of them entertained the idea of going down to 30 Rock together, just as a gag. Unfortunately they decided they were both too tired.

I think that's how that story first surfaced.
