It was 50 years ago today…
Today is the quinquagenary of the Beatles’ famous audition for record producer George Martin of EMI. As any Beatlephile would know, Martin went on to produce over two dozen #1 hits for the band in the next eight years.

The Beatles - Rank The Albums
How can you rank the output of the world’s greatest band? You can’t, and you perhaps shouldn’t, and it will change every time you consider it, but we’re going to anyway. So without further ado here they are. Obviously 'The Best of The Beatles' tops them all, but we knew that already.

I think they did pretty well. I would've probably put MMT a bit higher, but other than that, I agree. I would put Let it Be at the bottom like they did, but I think their comments are too harsh. It's still a great album with some songs that are known and beloved by millions of people. It'd still be better un-Spectorized, though. Which is why I prefer Let it Be Naked. I'm suuuuuuch a brainwashed Paul fan it's not even funny.

Yeah, agreed, that list is reasonable. Although if I pull an album out tonight to put on the turntable, it'll be For Sale over Pepper. I get much more enjoyment out of the lesser listened to albums lately.

Don't agree with it at all, actually. I never listen to Pepper and I LOVE Beatles For Sale and like Let it Be. And With the Beatles is AWESEOME, the diversity of types of songs on that record is amazing for such a young bunch of guys. And I love Help, but better than Rubber Soul? No no no.
I do find it funny that they say you'd be "all kinds of wrong" if you disagreed with Pepper being #1. As if there was a "right" or "wrong" in opinions about music.

Beatles for Sale does NOT deserve to be that low!!! That album has grown on me! Neither does With the Beatles. Why are all the AMAZING albums so low? AHDN and Rubber Soul are my two fave albums earlier albums. White Album deserves to be a tad higher, too.
I guess I'm "all kinds of wrong" for not ranking Sgt. Pepper as number one. It's a great album, but maybe 5th or 6th for me.

I would start my list with both Let It Be and Abbey Road at the bottom.
Beatles For Sale is a great album.

I'm not disputing Pepper's top ranking. Not much in it in the end, with AHDN, Revolver and Rubber Soul rightfully not far behind. I'm surprised with PPM's high ranking. I know it still sounds fresh, but I don't think it's a better piece of work than AHDN and Rubber Soul.

Let it be... Beijing
The Chinese capital gets own version of the Fab Four. Ji Xiang soaks up a little Beatlemania.
More than 50 years have passed since the Beatles put out their first records - in Hamburg - but millions of feet are still tapping to their music. Plenty of those fans are in China, and the Beijing Beatles, a tribute band based in the capital, thrives on the music that set off Beatlemania in the early 1960s.

The Beatles at EMI: The Contract, 18 June 1962
Perhaps the most significant unresolved controversy surrounding the recording of the Beatles first single “Love Me Do” rests on the question of whether or not EMI had finalized a contract with them. To wit: on 6 June 1962, were the Beatles auditioning or were they already under contract? Documentation and personal memories conflict such that no single answer can claim to be definitive, even as the evidence suggests a nuanced social interplay between Parlophone’s George Martin and Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
