Default Funny Real Names

I got this idea from another board I visit, but can you think of any funny real names? I'll give a few. My friend knew a teacher in high school named Candy Kane. My uncle had a teacher in high school with the last name Hussy. And my friend's mother has relatives with the last name Crummy. They even opened a restaurant and called it "Crummy Burgers." But don't let the name fool you! The burgers are actually very good. I don't know if the restaurant is still though...I'll have to ask. Also, I think the name Ish Kabibble is funny! I think that person was a movie star in the thirties and forties or something.

I think I've heard just about every goofy new kids' name that has been invented in my line of work. My favorite story with kids' names, though it's not a funny name exactly, was when a new kid started in the 2-year-old room at work. Deb and Chris (the teachers in that room) could NEVER get the kid's attention--they'd be yelling "Robert! Robert!" to the hills, and the kid wouldn't respond. So FINALLY after about a week, they asked Mom if his hearing was bad or something, and her answer was "Oh, his name is Robert but we call him Alex."

???? (Turns out his middle name was Alex, and that's what Mom and Dad called him...It was just funny how the mother worded the answer right away. You'd think they would have MENTIONED something important like that on Day One, though...)

Okay, I'll stop rambling...

I just took a look in our local phone book to see if this guy was still living here. Seems that he's moved away or got an unlisted number now. His name was listed as Joe Blow. On a hunch I looked further and actually found a Jane Doe living here though.

There's a woman at my company named Bonnie Clyde. I asked her if she was married and she told me that Clyde was her married named. I'm sure she's heard many jokes about that!

I went to high school with a kid named Rhett Butler! He ran for student body president one year and wanted to put up campaign posters that said "Vote for Rhett Butler -- He DOES Give a Damn!" but the school wouldn't let him, of course! More's the pity, I think it would've been funny! But I swear, it took a LONG time before I could look him in the eye and call him "Rhett," even though it WAS really his name! (Too much for THIS "Gone With The Wind" fan! )

Oh, and here's a link to some info on "Ish Kabibble!"

You'd think, right? Geez, all the school applications I've ever filled out for Jamie (and we're filling out ones for kindergarten now!) have a space where they ask "What is your child's nickname or the one he responds to most readily?" I mean, Jamie responds to "James," of course, but I always put "Jamie" in that area! You'd think if the names were as disparate as "Robert" and "Alex," the mom would sorta...MENTION...something like that? Boy, that is NOT a small detail, either!!! Ya gotta wonder about those parents!

Hi, Kristi!
Ish Kabibble's real name was Merwyn Bogue, and he had a Beatle haircut! He was popular in the 40s, and people started calling him Ish Kabbible after he popularized the Yiddish song ISCH KA BIBBLE (I Should Worry).
He became famous on a show called THE COLLEGE OF MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE, which was hosted by Kay Kaiser.
Just thought you'd like to learn that!

Thanks for the info on Ish Kabibble, Susan...I found out he was a musician, not a movie star. I got my decades right though. Thanks again!

I suppose it could be WORSE, Ashley...she could be Jill Fry FRENCH...! Or her maiden name could've been French and she could've married a guy named Fry...Jill French Fry....at any rate, many congrats to your newlywed cousin!

I once knew someone named Melinda Smith who married someone called Jones, so she became Melinda Smith Jones, and no one believed it was really her name, but it was!

This is going to get lost in translation...Anyway, here it goes!

I had a school colleague that was named Daniela Vinagrete - now, "vinagrete" is the same name of a salad dressing here in Brazil! (try picturing a person with a surname such as "Honey Mustard" and you'll get the picture).

And my father had this friend called Email. No really, it is an Arab name, I think, and it's pronounced "eh-mah-eel", but once internet caught up, you can imagine all the jokes this fella must have heard!...

Angel,

Ol' Ish DID have a Beatle haircut! When I was in middle school, I saw a picture of him and asked, "Who's the guy with the Beatle haircut?"

Yep, just saw a pic of Ish and he had a Beatle haircut (and that was before the Beatles!). Anyway, speaking parents naming their children. My late uncle named his son Joe, *just* Joe, not Joey, or Joseph, *just* Joe. You had to call him Joe or else.

Love these stories, they're fun! I'm thinking of more, too!

There were two teachers in my junior high school who were married to each other -- Mr. and Mrs. Burd. Mr. Burd was 6'5", Mrs. Burd was about 5'0", and all the kids called them "Big Burd" and "Little Burd."

I also knew a girl in high school whose name was Patricia Schultz. Not a funny name, you say? No, it wasn't -- but consider that her family changed their last name, and her name HAD been "Patricia Schmuck!" I think I'd change that one too...

Oh, and my sister-in-law's first name is Lowana. All her nieces and nephews called her "Aunt Wana" when they were little...and last week, while driving through the suburb of Buffalo called Lackawanna, I mentioned to my husband that that must be what my brother suffers from when he's away from his wife too long -- "Lack o' Wana!"

I particularly like "Claire Annette" and "Bonnie Clyde!"

My Gram told me a story--she swore it was true--about a family in her childhood hometown (near Liverpool) whose last name was "Zass". Now, this would be a really bad last name no matter WHAT your first name is, but the kid that was in her class from this unfortunate family was named Nathan, and he was a Junior. His father sold eggs, and his wagon proclaimed N. ZASS, FRESH EGGS.
I'm betting that Nathan Jr. had to endure a LOT of teasing...
