I think I must disagree with your disagreement, with some refinement. All of those releases are totally pointless. To me. A great seller doesn't mean it's great. And all of those 70s and 80s LPs go along perfectly with what I said before.

I have all of that stuff already. I don't need to be introduced to the music, I don't need 55 different compilations.

I must disagree with your refined disagreement to my disagreement, also with some refinement. The "1" release should actually matter to you, because a large number of the younger members around here have stated that they first caught the Beatles bug from that album. They eventually found their way here, and hopefully some have been donating members and have added to your wallet. Even if they didn't send cashola, they at least balance the demographics around here and prevent you from being the Virtual Mayor of Geezertown. (Of course, I'd still be here along with my walker, fighting my way through arthritis to type messages like this.)

I am going to jump back in here and get myself bruised and dirty...

When I first got into The Beatles in the late 70's, I of course acquired any and every compilation LP that was recently released or released several years prior. I loved them all... "Love Songs", "Hollywood Bowl", Red and Blue Albums, etc. But I was a newbie.... hungry for any Beatles albums I could ge tmy hands on.

However, many years later, I can see that some of these compilations were really not in the best interest of The Beatles, really. I always thought - even as a kid - that "Rock and Roll Music" was a rather flimsy, uneven grouping of songs.... "Love Songs" was nice - a better compilation than "R&R Music" for sure.... "Live at The Hollywood Bowl" I loved.... "Rarities" was a treasure trove for me at that age... The Red and Blue albums I never really cared for, as I became hard-core fairly quickly, and those two albums didn't truly represent to ME what their best work was (how was "Got To Get You Into My Life" not on the Red Album?????). When "Reel Music" came out, I bought it of course. But, again, I felt - even back then - that it was a fairly pointless album. Aside from "Hollywood Bowl" and "Rarities", none of these really warrant a CD release.

Now.... and I may be contradicting an earlier post somewhat, as for the past 15 years or so, I'd say that most of what has come out has been well worth it. The Anthology CD's are all awesome... The "Yellow Sub" release I felt was worth it and a nice companion to the re-released DVD... "1" I could have lived without, but it was a cool concept. "Let It Be Naked" I thought was cool - it was good to have that album appear as it should have the first time around (althought that 2nd CD is a waste of time!)... "The Capitol Albums Volumes 1 and 2" - brilliant!

I agree in the historical context. The question that begs an answer now is whether we today really do need a rerelease of the blue and red alongside the original albums or not? I'd say it depends a lot on whether the Beatles catalog is going to be available as individual track downloads or not. If not, well, then I personally think the red and blue still fill a need.

Yeah...definitely going to have to get the 2 boxed sets. It will end all frustrations, I guess. I'm just going to have to sell my left arm to get that extra cash...

But no bonus material? COME ON.

So there will be no vocal centered Rubber Soul? - Okay, safety first.

But I'm sure this is not yet all of it, why else all the hype about I Don't Want To Lose You and Carnival of Light.

Oh man, these remasters put me in a tough spot. I really don't think I can afford at all to get either of the box sets...for now I will probably just nab the remasters of Rubber Soul, Revolver, Pepper, the White Album, and Abbey Road. Probably go back and get some of the others later.

Ugghhh.

Magical Mystery Tour is a must! There's not one bad song in that album.

What about Blue Jay Way...? Flying isn't a real classic either. And Baby you're a rich man is a filler: one of the very few b-sides that REALLY was a b-side. ;)

MMT is a great collection of songs, and for a time I think I even considered it my favourite.

But really, it's not a real album, and a good deal of the songs on there have already appeared remastered in some way or another.

EDIT:

Also, I've always hated Hello, Goodbye.

Default Why not a re-mix?

I think is great to have the originals remastered and also the "mono" box set, but I think there was something missing: the complete re-mix and re-master of the songs presenting them in glorious 5.1. If you have heard the "love" DVD you will understand about what I am talking about. The remix brings new life to the music and makes the music sound as it was recorded yesterday. The Beatles music was very well recorded, so it is relly possible to create spectacular 5.1 mixes. I have the 5.1 mixes of Genesis albums and the sound is incredible.
