Cool Last Photo of John and George?

This was posted on the Beatle Photo Blog today, and it gave me chills... and it made me a bit sad thinking about how the two of them didn't really speak much in the years before John died.

I thought they didn't see each other after the Concert for Bangladesh, when they had that argument concerning Yoko.

I've read somewhere that John was really hurt, when he read George's book "I me mine".

John thought that George didn't refer to him so much. But someone counted the mentions and George mentions John more than Pattie, more than Olivia, more than his mom, and more than Paul or Ringo...so while John took it a slight, it really wasn't. That's the sad part. I wish John had been able to know, George just wrote a very private autobiography.

I saw this a few days ago. Isn't it sweet? George with his Krishna button on... I can't tell who is on John's button?

That came from this article, in case you haven't seen it... from Jesse Ed Davis' girlfriend. She is kind enough to share these rare pics with the world now. Really a thoughtful gesture.

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/lo...102741569.html

I paused the video on George's postcard and what he wrote was so sweet...

"dry tears now and lets have a smile... "

George's postcard is at minute 3:17.

Also there are two pictures of Paul at John's beachhouse in LA during the Lost Weekend, first time the two reportedly met since after the breakup... Paul playing John's piano.

Just great pics.

I'm pretty sure that's Elvis on John's button. You know... John's Krishna.

Anyway, yeah.... it's sad how John got all bent out of shape about George's bio, but I really think there were other issues, and some that we may not have known about as well. But who knows?

To me, this photo is what's most surprising about the Lost Weekend photos that Jesse Ed's girlfriend is now making public. I don't think I knew John and George had seen each other in L.A. And it's really a touching photo... sloppy drunk John and patient George. You sense a familial connection...

Here are two longer video's about Patti Daley talking about all these pictures and other things she has.

There is a closer and longer view on the George/John picture at 3.16 and 5.38 and also has a lot from Ringo (playing backgammon with Jesse Ed and Patti's son, it has Paul in John's beachhouse playing piano, 1974, The Rolling Stones, Mickey Dolenz, handwritten cards from George, handwritten lyrics from John, pictures of George and Olivia with Jesse Ed and Patti

There is a part 2 of this but that is 'currently unavailable and hopefully will show up again later.

Yeah I've always thought that it was sad that John took such offence to his lack of reference when in fact he featured so much more than other important people in his life.

Love that photo. I must watch these clips when I can.

Likely so! I bet you're right... I see everyone in it from Elvis to Ray Charles to Buddy holly to David Hasselhoff! Elvis it is!

Yes, exactly... George loved him. I hope John knew that on some level..

I think George was a good influence on John.

In a story we all know, it was Louise who told her son to offer condolences to John when Julia died. It was Louise who did not bar him at the door, but instead made him a welcome guest. It was her good example that set the tone for George. I think she taught him to be a good person and he in turn applied that to John.

They were clubbing, 1974 "The Troubadour, Los Angeles.

It's probably not the last time they met in 1974 because George invited John and May Pang to his concert in New York in December and they had dinner on the 14th. John and May Pang were at the Madison Square concert as also Paul and Linda. John had been asked by George to come on stage but since John did not sign the Beatles Agreement, a 2nd denial (Bangla Desh) came through in history.

Well, since the photo was taken at the Troubadour during John's Lost Weekend, we could only imagine what substances where circulating in his blood system at the time! Naughty boy...

<Bump>

Its been a long time since I read "I Me Mine" so I cannot reference what was said or not said about John.

However, I distinctly recall reading one of John' final interviews where it is pointed out that he has yet to mention George. John goes on to say, and this me paraphrasing from memory, that George had written something to the effect that 'John was not influential in my life."

John then describes how George would follow he and Cynthia around like a little brother. He goes on to say that he would assist George in the studio, just the two of them, even though he had other things to do but did so because 'he loved him.' So all things considered, it was a rather insensitive on George's part.

My take, then and now, is that George spent every moment from 1970 onward trying to redefine who he was. He wanted a different persona than Beatle George and the book was one way it manifested itself. But when you redefine yourself, the temptation is to redefine the past. And that is where it jived with John's past.
