"He (Pete Best) was doing OK, but if you compare it to Ringo, he just did not have that swing. He just did not have that rock. He just didn't." -Klaus Voormann

Starr at Mohegan
By MaryEllen Fillo on June 28, 2010 8:37 AM

Ringo Starr, a member of one of music's most influential and popular bands of all time, The Beatles, was inducted into Mohegan Sun's Walk of Fame Sunday. The prestigious award presentation was not only special for the former Beatles drummer who was there to unveil his star, but also the fans who turned out for the event.

"It is so nice and great to be here," he said. "My shows started out in a tent and look at this place now. I want to thank Mohegan Sun for putting me in the Walk of Fame."

Starr joined The Beatles in 1962 as the band's drummer, and also did additional songwriting and vocals as part of the hugely-successful rock band. He has gone on to a successful solo craeer that includes the recent release of his 15th studio album, Y Not.

Walk of Fame Induction: Ringo Starr - Mohegan Sun

On Sunday, Ringo Starr became the 19th person inducted into
the Walk of Fame at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Ct.

The ceremony took place at 5 p.m. It was held at the box office entrance to
the Mohegan Sun arena. Tom Cantone, vice president of sports and
entertainment for Mohegan Sun started the proceedings
by introducing Lynn Malerba, chairwoman of the Mohegan tribe.

Patti Murawski told us, "Ms. Malerba spoke briefly before introducing Ringo.
She told about seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and collecting Beatle bubble gum cards and
had played the 'Flip Your Wig' game. She also spoke about how Ringo has been
playing Mohegan Sun since the early days and he has played the arena many times.
She also said that Ringo is the 19th recipient of a star. She then introduced Ringo."

Patti said Ringo entered from inside the arena area, past the fans to the area where
the star was to be placed in the floor. He and the two casino representatives did the unveiling.
They then presented Ringo with a crystal plaque etched with a representation of the star.
They also had him pose with the casino officials with a placard
of the star that would be put into the floor.

"Ringo did speak briefly, saying he and the casino went back a long way playing
the tent (he actually had played the old bingo hall, and a tent on the property while
the arena was under construction). He asked whose star was on the floor next to his;
when he was told it was Journey, he said, 'Oh, so I'm in good company,'" she said.
