Well i am not ashamed to say that i used to smoke dope on a regular basis, and most of my friends still do and i am sure my kids won't be screwed up over it, its a huge deal over in the states but not here. I would be more worried if my kids grew up knowing there was a gun in the house.

I've never smoked it myself, but I know plenty of people that do and it doesn't worry me!!!!!
My dad used to smoke it years ago and I haven't been scarred for life!!!!!

Its nonsense, my mother law did at the dylan gig we went to and her kids aren't screwed up, you have more chance of being screwed up by religion and guns than dope.

This discussion reminds me of the 80's commercial where the dad finds pot in his son's room and says "Where did you learn to use pot?" then the son yells, "You OK? I learned it from you!"

Nah, it's not a "huge deal" over here either. I've never done it because I can't stand the smell, but I know plenty of people who do or used to. It's a bit beside the point though, really.

Anyway, about Heather, I do agree that she needs to take personal responsibility, but the only people she has to "prove herself" to are her friends and family. She doesn't owe me anything. I'm surprised how many people (not just here, but other places too) seem personally affronted by her bad choices...they're just her bad choices, we've all made some of those, doesn't really matter to me if her bad choices are "worse" than mine or not (besides, all that is so subjective anyway), they don't really affect me, so I don't really care.

I only am bothered by her bad choices if it means that they're hurting Paul. I know how totally psycho it seems, but I just don't like to know that he's hurting,so I tend not to approve of actions or people that hurt him.

What does that have to do with what I had said. How should any of us here know? When Paul was busted in what, 1980, his kids were still young. I wonder how they thought about having their famous father in a Japanese jail for pot possession. It must've quite the talk of the playground, eh?

Sorry!!! Did you mean what did his kids think about it at the time it happened? I thought you meant now!!! Sorry!!! My mistake!!!
Well if they were that young, they might not have understood fully what a "pothead" was. And having famous parents is gonna be "the talk of the playground" whatever they do!!!!!
I would imagine that at the time, it was quite distressing for them, but I don't see that it's had any long lasting, terrible effect on them.....that's all!!!

Ok. Let's break this down, shall we? Heather (daughter) was about 17. I know because she's *my* age. Mary was about 10. Stella and James, even younger. I'm sure Heather fully knew what was going on at the time. I was wondering how she (as well as the others) felt growing up, knowing her parents were "potheads". Yes, that is what *we* called them back then here in the states. Hell, I was even one of them at one time! We're all being sympathetic towards Bea, and justifiably so. All due to Heather being, pardon the pun, publicly exposed for something she did years before. Then, I began to wonder about Paul's kids, due to his public humiliation. That's all! Am I still being clear as mud?

Yes!!! I realise what you mean now and it was just that I misread your post, that's all!!!!! I understand entirely what you mean now and I have no idea as to the ages of Paul's kids. I expect Heather did understand what was going on when her parents were arrested in Japan. But I'm also sure that the fact that it was so public made it worse and I doubt she's the first person to have parents who smoke dope or whatever.
As for Bea, yes it will be terrible for her when she finds out about both her mother's past and her father's past. But I think she has a strong enough family around her that she'll be able to get through it.

So when Bea gets older, she's going to find out that.....

a) her mother posed for some photos of a pornographic nature when she was younger and a bit strapped for cash and then went on to deny it totally after she got famous.

AND

b) her father was arrested for trying to smuggle dope into Japan when he was younger, but really should have known better.

I don't see that any one of those things is worse than the other, so I don't know why people keep bringing up the subject of Heather's pictures and painting her in such a bad light (that's not to say that I think she's a saint, by any means!!!) when she really hasn't done anything worse than what Paul did in 1980.

That's just my opinion and just the way that I, personally, see it.....so please don't anybody jump on me!!!!!

No one's jumping on you, Sandy. You can come across far less riled, yourself, if you tone down your exclamation points a bit. And you're right. Neither one is worse than the other. However, do you know what the difference is? Paul was arrested at the time it happened. News spread worldwide because it *was* indeed news and not tabloid trash. He couldn't deny it happened because there's footage of it occuring. Heather's antics, photos, etc. all happened *before* she became famous. Also, there's solid proof that it actually happened. The difference is, she had the luxury to try to cover up and deny these actual events. And that, is what I don't like about Heather's character. I don't like (or respect) liars, cheaters or fakes. I mean, look at what happened to our own ex-president, Bill Clinton. He's the poster child, indeed!

Sandy, perhaps as Heather grew up at that time, she could've joined Paul and Linda during their joint passes- even with the other kids. I suppose we will never know about that! Other than that, Paul's been up to a few other arrests in the 1970s and even in 1984; also doesn't he have arson on his rap sheet of being accused of setting the place before the Beatles went to the Top Ten on fire with Pete Best?

I read all the other Heather articles. Must say I'm appalled. All she did was take her shirt off for the camera. She didn't kill anyone, she didn't torture anyone. But then again, for all I know that some are writing love letters to Scott Peterson and have an Aileen Wuornos poster in their room that they look upon as an idol. There are many bad people out there and poor Heather is getting the brute of it.

I have never used pot at all.
I know my parents have used it. It doesn't bother me cause it is something I will not likely do anyway.

Well I think people in the press should stop bringing these stories up.... I mean sure, it'll be hard for Beatrice at first, but..they are her parents and she will obviously love em no matter what. And don't forget all the great things they have done for others. I mean...sure Heather is being painted in a horrid light right now by many, but that still doesn't erase the fact that she has done some very good work for landmine victims. And Paul, sure he smoked dope, but he is a rock star after all, lol, kinda comes with the territory. Plus look at all the great animal rights stuff he has done, and not to mention all the billions upon billions of people's lives he brightened with his music. I think all the great stuff those two have done will be more important to Bea than the negative stuff.
