Default Re: Paul Song of the Day - Part III

[ QUOTE ]
Cecilia Posted:
"I Do", from the sometimes overrated "Driving Rain"

I think this is a beautiful track, one of the highlights of this album. I'm particularly a fan of using violins, specially in a love song.
Paul said about this: "It was one of those 'if you only knew' songs, like just talking to someone; 'if you only knew, that it's OK from my side'. It's like a communicative statement to someone - 'whatever you think at any given time, remember this - I do'

[/ QUOTE ]

A nice love song indeed.

I Do

If you only knew
How much it meant to me,
You'd understand
And I would feel
Your love was true.
This is all I want,
This is all I need,
This is all I long for, I do.

Just remember this,
After a time it's through
And evermore
Will there be days
For me and you.
This is all I ask,
All I ask of you.
Please remember darling, I do
Love you.

Days go by so quickly
When you're having fun
But life is never easy,
Even in the sun.

Please remember this
After a time it's through
And evermore
Will there be days
For me and you.

This is all I want,
This is all I need,
Darling please remember, I do
Love you.

If you only knew.

It's a really nice song. I think he actually did write it for his father. The arrangement is beautiful, and it's another 'plus' to that great album that Flowers In The Dirt is.

A nice beautiful song song, and a very moving one. The phrase put it there comes from his father. I will go as far to say that this is one of my favourites from Paul. I remember me and my younger brother both likeing this song.

"I Do" is also a nice one, even tho the strings on this one comes from a sample and aren't real, something that George Martin could have aranged, ones.

You can also relate to it as a child, thinking of your parents.

"that's what a father said to his young son"

yeah coming from Paul's Dad, however I can also see it coming from a friend to a friend...

"it's all that matters in the end"
"as long as you and I are here..."

A beautiful acoustic :)

Another one I am playing is "Another Day" which brings me back to the innocent seventees where grass still was green, the wonderful Paul with his beautiful imaginary songs

I love both songs that you've mentioned, Rob. Put it there is a lovely song. something that yes, people with children can relate to, but I can also see it meaning "I'm here for ya, mate." Either way - lovely.

Well, many people know by now that "Another Day" is my favorite Paul song. (And if you didn't, you do now! ) The guitar work is lovely and the lyrics, simple but great. Love the "story songs".

Oh I LOVE Calico Skies, I think it's one of the most beautiful songs Paul's ever written!

Agreed.

Today I'm in the mood for Just Another Day.

I assume you mean "Another Day"? That seems to be a popular song this week, as somebody else picked it just the other day!

I'd like to pick "Angry" today because I'm highly ****ed off at the woman I'm working with for being such an idiot.

Exclamation

Just a reminder folks, that the original idea behind "song of the day" was that someone would pick a song that they liked and others would discuss it. Then, the next day, someone else would pick a different song. This way, it gives this topic a bit more substance than just naming titles. Often Bearkat would also list the lyrics and give a bit of background on the turn.

Bearkat, if you're reading this and would like to do that again, I'd personally love it if you would!

So okay, who wants to pick today's song????
