sorry guys but I have a dissenting opinion. But it is music discussion we are looking for right? I just listened to Big Barn Red and I find the music too busy and I am not a big fan of Wings "disco" vocals. I hardly can understand Paul's lyrics because the high pitched background vocals is what my ears pick up more of. Although I do agree that " My Love " is one of Paul's best solo songs. Not much I can say about this song. I've never really gotten into it. A bit of the song was heard on Paul's Ram album, but I really don't know why Paul chose this song to open his album Red Rose Speedway.

Big Barn Bed

Who's that coming 'round that corner?
Who's that coming 'round that bend?
Who's that coming 'round that corner?
Will it, will it be my friend?

Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.

And I'm not, (ooh wee), and I'm not. (ooh wee)
And I'm not, (ooh wee), and I'm not. (ooh wee)

Who you gonna weep on?
Who you gonna sleep on?
Who you gonna creep on next?
Weeping on a willow, sleeping on a pillow,
Leaping armadillo, yes.

Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.

Leaping armadillo, yes.

Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on sleeping in a big barn bed.
Keep on woman.
Keep on (sleeping in a big barn bed)
Keep on (sleeping in a big barn bed)
Keep on (sleeping in a big barn bed)
Keep on (sleeping in a big barn bed)
Keep on (sleeping in a big barn bed)
Keep on woman.

I'm not sure what you mean, either....

When I think of Paul/Wing's "disco vocals" I think of stuff like "Coming Up" and "Goodnight Tonight".

"Don't say it.....Don't say it".....lol..

Peace and Love

Oh hee hee - why don't we pick "Goodnight Tonight" as today's song so everyone can rip it apart??

I actually don't mind it as much as I did back when it came out (when I HATED it with a PASSION!) and I think it's musically a lot more interesting than a lot of disco songs, but, well, that's not saying much. Great bass line though.

So if we are making "Goodnight Tonight" today's pick, then I'll have my say. As far as a disco song goes, it's better than most. The video is fun. I don't really mind this song. The middle bit is kinda silly with the "owww owww" and "whosh" noises, but I like Laurence's guitar work.

I agree, the video is fun, but I just can't take to the song, not then, not now, not ever

Or as I said when I was listening to Wingspan in the car with my dad, "Play anything, but don't play 'Goodnight Tonight.'"

"Goodnight Tonight" was Paul's attempt at keeping up with the times. Disco music was the big thing in 1979. I confess that I was drawn into that scene for a while.

His bass playing is top-notch here and John even made a similar remark about it.

Goodnight Tonight

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.

Don't get too tired for love.
Don't let it end, ooh.
Don't say goodnight to love,
It may never be the same again.

Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything, don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything, don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it,
You can say anything but don't say goodnight tonight.

Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything but don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything but don't say goodnight tonight, ooh.

Hah.
Oh no.
Oh.

Don't get too tired for love.
Don't let it end.
Don't say goodnight to love,
(Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it, don't say goodnight tonight)
It's a feeling that may never end.
(Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it, don't say goodnight tonight)

Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything, don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it,
Say anything, don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it,
You can say anything, don't say goodnight tonight.
Don't say it, don't say it...

Not his best, but then not his worst either. And, yes, great bass line! Overall, I'm kind of neutral about it. It doesn't make me cringe like some of his other efforts, but it's not my all-time favorite. Don't like the "disco-ness" of the tune, but Paulie does do the disco-bit better than most!

Right now, the one Paul song I'm raving about the most for some reason is the overlooked "Back on my feet", the b-side of "Once upon a long ago"....1987 single which I can't believe wasn't included on "Wingspan".
But "Back on my feet" definitely deserves a bit more acknowledgement and investigation...let's not let it disappear!!!
It's a McCartney/Mcmanus composition...'Mcmanus' being Elvis Costello of course - a collaboration not favoured by all for some reason (I do recall once reading a Q magazine article intolerantly dismissing the "red herrings that were the awkward McCartney/Mcmanus compositions")
Oh dear....whoever wrote that article obviously hasn't heard this song. Elvis Costello is not only still turning out quality material, him and Paul are still very much good friends.
That's much more than you can say for Michael Jackson now, innit.

Also, just like to say....before you start to think that whoever decided that this song, along with "Rain", "Yes it is" and "I am the walrus" should have all been B-sides needs a kick up the B-side himself, I just think it proves the Beatles policy of making quality value-for-money records where the B-side was just as good...a serious thing to do back then.
Another musical rule they re-wrote with style.....

I like this one! It has a good rhythm...I recognize that it doesn't say anything too significant apart from the fact that Paul doesn't want to say "goodnight" to his girl, but I like "Hello Goodbye" too, and it has dumber lyrics than this one

Oh, I LOVE "Back on my feet"! The verses are a little wordy and don't have much of a melody, but the chorus is great, both melodically and lyrically. I like most of the McCartney/Costello collaborrations, but I'm quite a fan of Elvis.

Didn't we do "Back On My Feet" some time ago? I think it's very underrated anyway. One of my favorite Macca songs, ever. And my favorite of the collaborations with Costello.

"Goodnight Tonight" - I think it's catchy and it actually depends on the day if I enjoy it that much. It is added as a bonus track on the McCartney II 'Collection' CD, which I think it's just not right. Should have been added to Back To The Egg, and the "Wonderful Christmastime" song should have been in McCartney II, but oh well. I love the instrumental breaks (the one with spanish guitar and the one with electric guitar especially) in this song, and I think it's a good way to introduce a very good guitar player like Laurence Juber to the band. But it's overall kind of forgettable, isn't it. Like a guilty pleasure, I'd say. There's a 7-minutes version of this floating around (I believe it was on the 12" single), which has an extra verse, and kind of proves that this one was really a serious attempt at disco!. I still stay with the short song anyway.

Yes, I have the GT 12" extended version--believe it or not, that's actually the way it was recorded, it wasn't artificially added it. The single is edited.

BOMF is a good song but probably my least favorite of the FITD bonus tracks (aside from Oeu Este Le Soule or whatever).

Well, "Ou Est Le Soléil" is sort of a bonus track, since it wasn't on the LP.

Really? What annoys me (to no end) is the use of parenthesis (which many people tend to do (with special care (and not thinking that it can be pretty annoying (some times)))).

Just look at the song titles of George's Extra Texture album: "Ooh Baby (You Know That I Love You)", "His Name Is Legs (Ladies And Gentleman)"... What's the use of it?
