Good song. I don't listen to it too often, but I love it.

And yes, darkhorse, "Disco Duck" is a good song...if you're in the mood to hear it.

Having originated in 1988, "The Lovers That Never Were" had an orchestral arangement made for it then. I have yet to hear this version, so the "stripped-down" version from Off The Ground is what I'm familiar with. A touching song of yearning for someone you can never have.

The Lovers That Never Were

I have always needed somebody, girl,
But I close the doors to keep out the world.
But for you, I would be here all alone,
Locked in a photograph.
All of the clocks have run down, lover, beware,
We'll be the lovers that never were.

I hang patiently on every word you send.
Will we ever be much more than just friends?
As for you, you sit there playing this game,
You keep me waiting.
When all of the clocks have run down all over the world,
We'll be the lovers that never were.

For as long as the sun shines
In somebody's eyes,
I believe in you, baby.
So don't tell me lies,
For as long as the trees
Throw down blossoms and leaves,
I know there will be
A parade of unpainted dreams.

And I know, dear, how much it's going to hurt
If you still refuse to get your hands dirty.
So you must tell me something, I love you.
Say goodbye or anything.
All of the clocks have run down, time's at an end.
If we can't be lovers, we'll never be friends.

For as long as the sun shines
In somebody's eyes,
I believe in you, baby.
So don't tell me lies. (don't tell me no lies)
For as long as the trees (as long as the trees)
Throw down blossoms and leaves, (throw down blossoms and leaves)
I know there will be
A parade of unpainted dreams.
Oooh.

Here's a song I recently "rediscovered". I think it's the best song on Wings Wild Life. A breezy and melodic number that Paul is best known for.

Tomorrow

Oh, baby, don't you let me down tomorrow.
Holding hands, we both abandon sorrow.
Oh, for a chance to get away tomorrow.

Hey, baby's got a lazy day on Sunday.
Here's a pound, we hang around till Monday.
Oh, baby, don't you let me down on Sunday.

Bring a bag of bread and cheese
And find a shady spot beneath the trees.
Catch a breath of country air
And run your pretty fingers through my hair.
Tomorrow, when we both abandon sorrow.

Oh, baby, don't you let me down tomorrow.
Through the week, we beg and steal and borrow.
Oh, for a chance to get away tomorrow.

Honey, pray for sunny skies,
So I can speak to rainbows in your eyes.
Let's just hope the weatherman
Is feeling fine and doesn't spoil our plan.
Tomorrow, when we both abandon sorrow.

Oh babe, baby, don't you let me down tomorrow.
Holding hands, we both abandon sorrow.
Oh, baby, don't you let me down tomorrow.
Oh, for a chance to get away tomorrow.

Baby, don't let me down tomorrow,
Baby, don't let me down tomorrow,
Baby, don't let me down tomorrow,
Baby, don't let me down tomorrow.

Yeah, don't let me down,
Baby, don't let me down tomorrow,
Baby, don't let, let me down tomorrow,
Baby, don't let me down tomorrow.

I like that song a lot too, 'Kat. It's one of my two favorites on that album. Simple and sweet with a great high vocal.

Nice gentle ballad with great harmonies by Linda and Paul. What's been said about the end of "London Town" goes for this song to, the litle coda at the end with the disjointed guitars doesn't add to ballad imo. but still a wonderfull song. Not the best on "Wild Life" imo tho, I save what I think is the best song from "Wild Life" for another round of Paul's song of the day.

Yeah, I'd have to say this is my second favorite from Wild Life, after "Some People Never Know." I think that a trimmed version of this backed with "Tomorrow" would've made a great double-A debut single for Wings...

To be absolutely honest with you, I haven't listened to this album in so many years that my only really clear memory of this song is that I thought it was one of the best on the album. But I really don't remember enough of how it sounds to make any intelligent, informed comments. How about I listen to it tonight and get back to you?

Or I could tell you how he looked when he recorded it. (sorry, couldn't resist)

Footprints, intersting choise. Have to listen to it again. Don't think it's to overproduced with synth, at least not the begining which is nicely acoustic.

Also the lyrics are better then I thought at first, I won't go into them now tho.
What do you mean with your remark about ("oh white blanket hiding the traces of tears she didn't see"...) Paul couldn't have know how the album would do when he had writen the lyrics.

Well I said: "and I tend to think that this (the song) was lost due to the lack of success that this album had in sales"... meaning that not many people have heard it due to the bad results in sales. Nothing to do with the lyric, which I found excellent and I'm trying to rescue from oblivion.

Darkhorse, what are the bonus tracks on the remaster?

"Footprints" is probably one of the only tracks on PTP that I can stand. Not a McCartney classic, but it's better than almost everything on POP.

Let's see... the CD, as opposed to the LP, had three bonus tracks which came anyway with the 45's of "Press", "Only Love Remains" and "Pretty Little Head" (the genious who thought that was going to be a success as a single should have been tortured to death! )... those three were:

Write Away
It's Not True
Tough On A Tightrope

The remastered UK CD had two quite unrelated bonus tracks

Spies Like Us (the single used for the Chevy Chase movie)
Once Upon A Long Ago (Long Version) (the one that you can find in the Once Upon A Long Ago 12")

I would have liked to have "Hanglide" as a bouns track here too. It's a pretty good instrumental. And how about the leftovers: "Yvonne", "Lindiana", "Return To Pepperland"....

Thanks.

I've never heard "Lindiana," but I've heard all the others you mention, and I have to say "Yvonne" is better than a lot of songs from the album. He should have at least released it as a B-side.

I think Paul wanted to release a full 'Return to Pepperland' album, influenced by the Summer of Love 20 years prior to it.

"Footprints"...it surprised me the first time I listened to it and read it's lyrics. It's one of my favorites songs from the PTP album, but I don't agree that is a bad album. It's true that's it's very mediocre compared with another Paul works; but it has very good ones, like "However Absurd", for instance. And, of course, "Footprints"

Let's talk about music for a while in this Forum, could we? Not that I'm complaining or anything (I just don't read those topics about Paul's looks !), I'd just like to put on the table another Paul song for everyone to comment.

Let's see, I've been listening to Press To Play a lot lately, and, besides appreciating how mediocre that record really is (to me it's just one of the lowest points in Paul's carrer, next to Driving Rain and Pipes of Peace, and only over McCartney II... the four Paul albums that I can't stand really), I've had to really select the tracks that I love in it. There are of course two beautiful ballads, "Only Love Remains" and "Tough On A Tightrope" (this latest one only on the CD and in the remastered CD, which is the one I have), and the catchy, very 80's sounding "Press". And what else gives... "Talk More Talk" is quite good, too.

But the song I want to talk about is, to me, the most impressive (I don't really know if it's my favorite, 'cause I really like "Only Love Remains" too) track in the album, and it's called "Footprints". It actually reminds me, lirically, of some of the songs of The Beatles. Paul (with a help of Eric Stewart) tells a third-part story, but this time involving a lot with it. There are some notorious lines ("oh white blanket hiding the traces of tears she didn't see"...) and I tend to think that this was lost due to the lack of success that this album had in sales. Paul's vocal is very commited, and although the production could have been better (too much synths!), this is a real highlight to me.

So the song is "Footprints". Any comments?

Today's song and my favourite from "Wildlife": Some People Never Know.

beautiful harmonies, wonderful lyrics, shivers down the spine. It drags on a bit to long, with that artificial ending, strething the song out as so often happen on Paul songs, just a small point tho.

Also my favorite from Wild Life. Sure it's long, but it's justified to be long because it is that good.

My second favorite in Wings Wild Life after "Tomorrow". This features nice, very nice Paul/Linda harmonies, and a very beautiful instrumentation. I don't believe they spent that much of time recording this one, and that's part of the charm to it. The organ/electric guitar parts just compliment eachother easily, playfully, and the song becomes (with gorgeous, precise and even poetic lyrics) an ode to love and lovers without being cheesy at all.
