shaved fish vs wings greatest
a pretty fair comparison between john and pauls solo career. What I do find strange is that Paul is considered to have a more successful solo career. But after listinging to both albums I`ve drawn a different conclusion. Shaved fish only has one cringe worthy song - Women is the N..., the rest range from good to excellent. Whereas Wings greatest is made up of cringe inducing tunes except for the somewhat catchy Uncle Albert and the mildly overated Band on the Run. I have never been a big fan of the Beatles solo careers but now that I consider it I have to admit that Lennon produced the better songs by far. I get the same feeling when comparing Lennon Legend to Wingspan. John wins handsdown.

Shaved fish is good but I'm still thinking that you can't compare one song with a whole band.
I like Wings and was the best that a Beatle could to do after leave the band.
Could you ask: Maybe I'm amazed vs. Plastic Ono Band??

Re: shaved fish vs wings greatest
What Matt is trying to compare here is John's LP, Shaved Fish, against Paul's LP, Wings' Greatest. Both albums have very good songs on them. For me it's hard to pick which one is better. Personally, there's only one song on each LP I don't really care for.

Re: shaved fish vs wings greatest
I'd pick Shaved Fish.
They could have put good Wings songs instead of some medicore ones on Wings Greatest.

Ok... Lets put it this way..
Paul had the best (and is still having) solo career.
John... i just like his music better, and John will always be my favorite, but since he's gone (sniff Sniff) Paul is my favorite living artist.... i'm confuzed... still
I like them both, but paul is better, but I DONT KNOW ILL STOP BEFORE I EXPLODE

Re: shaved fish vs wings greatest
I feel pretty equally about these two albums. I don't like one more than the other. WG has MOK, My Love, Jet & Jr's Farm on it and SF has Imagine, Mind Games, #9 Dream (all my favorites) on them, so I was a happy camper. I use to have these both on vinyl and even then, neither was favored over the other. I suppose I'm just being diplomatic.

Re: shaved fish vs wings greatest
Let's see, for the Wing's Greatest...I like Another Day (catchy melody, cute little story) and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (you know...the chorus is so fun). I think I really love Hi Hi Hi and With a Little Luck just has a wonderful, warm, and truthful message to it. Junior's Farm is OK, I can't stand Silly Love Songs in any way (although a few silly love songs won't hurt me from time to time). Band On The Run is a great song...great transitions and one of Paul's most thought-out storylines. But its kind of aged on me a bit, though I still generally consider it a fantastic tune. Jet is catchy...but I never cared for it- or Let 'Em In (another song I really don't like). My Love is far too saccharine and overly maudlin for me. I never liked Live and Let Die, so it does nothing for me. And Mull of Kintyre...not bad. I like the sentiment. That song really made it, didn't it?
As for Shaved Fish...I think Mother is plain brilliant (that alone is enough said), Imagine is one of those songs that I can hear over and over and react the same way each time- sort of timeless and classic and beautiful all at once. Instant Karma...fantastic song. Love the production, the drums, the chorus. Just all-around perfect. I never liked Power to the People and I can't really say I ever will. Its got a popular chorus, but its a bit annoying to me, honestly. Give Peace a Chance...I love it. But on here its shortened, I think. Can't say I like that. Mind Games is beautiful, Cold Turkey is absolutely amazing, Whatever Gets You Thru the Night...OK. It is very catchy, but somehow it sounds so not-John-Lennon-like. #9 Dream is very gorgeous...and the medley? Well, anything with Happy X-Mas (War is Over) is fine with me, but I would prefer the whole songs to be honest.
Between the two, I would definitely choose Shaved Fish, because I much prefer John's songs anyway. But I don't really care for that medley stuff, or shortening the songs like that. I have BOTH these albums somewhere. I'll have to find them, because they are both really awesome in comparison to a lot of what constitutes as "music" today, anyway.

Re: shaved fish vs wings greatest
Matt - Both albums are quite good, but they both have very different sounds (naturally, I would HOPE they had different sounds, considering they are two different men...If John started sounding like Paul suddenly that would be a little wierd), and what you may consider "cringe worthy" is another person's favourite song. And as many have said - Its just a matter of taste
