Sorry, can't vote on this one...

Only one choice could be clicked, and I wanted to vote for the first two options...

Because of his music and words. *
Because of who he is. *

* Among other things (his humanity, his wit, his devotion to good causes, his simplicity...).

... I just couldn't limit myself to one pick.

Thursday..."can I borrow a bag of flour?"
Friday..."can I borrow some of your time?"
Saturday...."can I borrow you?"
Sunday...

In all seriousness, I like what Legs said. I really do think George was a beauiful man, inside and out and it came through so plainly in his beliefs and in his art. I wanted to vote for "his music and words" and also "for who he is," but like ABCKO pointed out, only one choice could be made.

I love and respect George's humility and his honesty. I think he was a fair person.

I chose because of who he is. I definitely agree that his words and music are a reflection of who he is as a person. He's always struck me as such an amazing and beautiful person (inside and out!)

I cast my vote for music/words. When I first became a Beatles fan, I was primarily focused on John and Paul, but George's Beatle songs started to really grow on me as I purchased more and more of their discs, and when I bought ATMP, I was just blown away. In fact, it led to me buying all of George's solo stuff that I could get my hands on, which was everything except The Concert for Bangladesh and Live in Japan. The depth of his talent as a composer and musician really amazed me. I had an awakening once I started listening to his solo stuff: "Wow! This guy is good!"

kc,

FPSHOT was kind enough to direct me to www.baltcd.com last year and you can get some AMAZING Harrison bootlegs there. You might also want to check out eBay as well.

Actually, I started off as a fan of Paul originally. I still think he's a underated bass player.

It was when I learned the bass work for "Something" that I gained a new respect for George Harrison. It is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Right now, I'm listening to "All Things Must Pass."

There's a legend out about this album being the collection of songs that Paul/John rejected. I believe that I heard that George was pushed to be a better songwriter because of the rejections. It obviously worked.

This album is incredible.

Hi and welcome to Beatlelinks.

This legend is kinda new to me, where did you get that from?

Not all songs on the album are rejected songs, they were in demos, some of them, but then, there are also many John/Paul songs from the same period, 1967-1970, which never made a Beatles album and ended up (or not) on their solo albums.

I don't believe one can see them as 'rejected'.

In the Let It Be film dialogues, you can hear George tell John and Paul that he has this huge amount of songs that he wrote, and he talks about wanting to put them on an album, which is then supported by I believe John, and then George plays some of them.

This is on bootleg, this discussion.

Also, some of the songs were written/finalized whilst recording the album.

But it is interesting to know where this legend comes from , because I have followed George most of my life and never heard this.

To be honest, Its probably more talk than truth. You know how a story can be constructed to match the facts despite it not actually being true.

The legend goes like this.
George Harrison had to fight to get his songs on the Beatles albums. The fact that George didn't get as many songs on the albums supported that idea. George's first solo album was a double album suggesting that he had a lot of material. The title of the album, "All Things Must Pass" could also be interpreted to support the legend.

I don't know what is true, but it makes for an interesting story.

The other thing I'm begining to learn is how much George influenced the sound of the Beatles. A lot of people assumed that John was the edgy one, but George brought a great deal of raw sound to the Beatles.

I voted Music. When I was just getting into the Beatles there were certain songs and certain parts of songs that really stood out to me, favorite bits. Eventually it occurred to me that most of these favorite bits, had one thing in common: George.
that was before I knew anything of his personallity or reputations, etc. and i thought three of them were good looking (sorry ringo) but i didn't really care about that anyway.

2nd choice would be who he is. I became quite curious about who he was after the Yahoo Chat a couple years ago and it only made me a bigger fan. I was just a beginner fan so-to-speak and i was curious: Gardner? Hare Krishna? and he was really funny! just barely scratching the surface.

3rd. He does look pretty da^m good in blue jeans.
his looks are like an extra bonus but not really important to why I'm a fan "mainly".

Here's another way of putting it: if I were to try to *show* someone else why i'm a fan, I would reach for one of his records before a quote or a picture.

It's simple, really, I fell in love with George the night I saw him on Ed Sullivan in '64. I was going to marry him! HA!

I was a member of SRF for 30 plus years (Paramahansa Yogananda's Org.). I didn't know George was a member until '74. I saw him that year in Long Beach when he donated some of that concert to SRF. A few of us "inner circle" people were allowed to stay after to meet with the monastics.

I did hear "whispers" about him from time to time (and he used to wear that Babaji button), but he kept a very low profile within that organization. On the Brainwashed album, he (they) thank Mitrananda, and that might be "Brother Mitrananda" a monastic in SRF.

His music is so different from the rest of the Beatles. I mean, they all have their own flavor, but his just intrigues me for some reason. He did some amazing things in his life. All of this plus his looks also make him very sexy. I dont know, there is just something about George that sets him apart from the rest.

About the looks many ladies here will agree with you .

As regards to the things in his life, can you give some examples of what you find so amazing?

George was indeed a beautiful man in every sense of the word.

I know I've said this before, but every time I think of just how well loved the youngest Beatle was, it really makes me feel intensely good. This came through in George's work and I think also made George all the more an effective influence.

Although I never knew George personally, I think it is fair to say that I really loved George. I think he was a good man who shared what he believed to enrich the lives and minds of others.

Well for me, I think George's spiritualisn, he seemed to have a great sense of life, I believe his spiritualism & love of life grew with each year of his short life, his true faith near the end of his life, really grabbed me,I took another long hard look at myself too, this faith George had also made me want to take time to know more about his life...

What is the main thing that you like and why you are a fan. Let's try to be honest.
So this is about why you're a fan now, it can be that you fell for George's look, but then started to listen to his music and find that is why you're a fan nowadays, so that's the option you choose.Ofcourse it can be a combination of things, but what is the main thing for you.

[/ QUOTE ]

Through and through the music. Looks never have a lasting impression on me, for some reason. Its easy for me to think someone is good-looking, but its far more rewarding for me when I hear or see something that just touches me and moves me in such a way. I fell in love with George for his music. I was 10 yeard old...I remember it like it was yesterday. Here Comes the Sun, that was it, I was hooked.

George had a very spiritual, "other-worldly" quality to him that is so intriguing, and not a lot of people can totally "get" (aside from all of us, of course). Like, his mind was in a whole other place, and he projected that not only in his music, but the way he spoke and the way he lived his life. He had a depth to him that just moved me. I can really find a lot of music fun and enjoyable, but it touches me when I feel that the singer really feels what they are singing, or the words just create an image for me that I can relate to, or I just think the overall result is sublime.

And that is George's music for me. I think it is sublime, "other-worldy", spiritual, deep, and his guitar-playing is simply beautiful. So I fell for the music. He was good-looking, of course, but that doesn't sustain it all for me.
