How To Convert 'Protected' WMA's to MP3 (Can also be used for other formats)
Even though it's all over the internet, I discovered this by experimenting. Sometimes, you need to fiddle around with the settings, but it ought to work.
I intend this tutorial to be used for LEGAL purposes, as in backing up your music or putting onto an MP3 player.

1. Download Audacity. It's free!

2. Find the protected song. Hopefully, you already have the 'license' for it, because you need to play it.

3. Now, you have Audacity open. This should be in one of the toolbars at the top.

See the little slider beside the microphone? Put it at 0.1.
And the drop-down menu, change it to "Stereo Mix."

4. Press Record. This is the big red circle.

5. Start playing the song. When the song ends, switch back to Audacity, and click Stop (The yellow square.)

6. Edit out any 'dead air,' as I call it. That's the silence before and after the song.

Now you have two options.

7a. To convert directly to MP3, you need some DLL. I don't remember the name of it, but if you don't have it, it will show a message.

7b. You can also convert to WAV, and use another program to convert it to MP3. I've heard this can cause lower quality, though.

To convert to either format, you go to the File menu.

This is the easiest free one I've used. I recommend it, specially if you don't have fast internet. :) (I recommend downloading their little software -- it's a LOT faster than the site!)

I use something called Orbit Downloader which can also download almost any streaming media (not all!) and other things as well. (I've scanned it for viruses and spyware, and it's clean!)

How To Record Audio From Videos

Song in video you can't hear elsewhere? Well, if you have Audacity you can create an MP3.

First, open Audacity. Don't start the video just yet. Set the input device to "Stereo Mix" (It's explained in "Converting Protected WMA's...). Then press Record,

Start the video.

When the video ends, Stop the recording. And delete "dead air." You may notice this is the same method I used to convert Protected WMA's to MP3.

And then save an an MP3, there ya go!

Uploading Files

If you are uploading an album or multiple related files, it is easier to zip them first before uploading. One file.
If you have Windows XP or Vista, it has a built in ZIP program. But they call it "compressed folder."
If you have another system, look up 7-zip. It's free, supports many formats, and cross-platform.

For uploading most files, I use MediaFire. You can upload as many as you want, they don't delete them, the only limitation is the file needs to be under 100 MB.

Also it's a good idea to register for an account, so you don't hafta keep re-uploading if you lose the link. (I also use it for homework. I upload schoolwork on the site and download it to work on at home.)

For bigger files:

a) If it is an album or several files, you can create several zip files instead of one.
b) If it's one file, try another file-hosting service. (Click here for a list, and choose your own!)

When uploading albums, if you have the cover art or tracklist, please include them. :)
