Default George Harrison's Letters

In May of 1962 George Harrison wrote this to Linda "Lindy" Ness, a regular Cavern Club attendee.

Star Club
Hamburg Altona
Große Freiheit 39
Liverpool 24

Dear Lindy,

Thank you for the [sic]. We
are all still in Hamburg as the [sic].
I started a letter to you
on Thursday, but it seemed to
get a bit "you know," so I have decided to write another.

Davy Jones arrived here the other
day [Cro loves black men] 2 weeks
earlier than expected [being of
independent colour.] He spent $57
the first night here on drink.
[here tea-bags are very expensive
you know!] He was heard to have
said as if it was quite, "2 double
cognacs, baby," to which the woman
behind the bar replied "Don't call me
baby, I could be your grandmother!"

Davy replying, "I don't think so,
ma'am, she was a shade darker
than you!" (hee-heee-hee)

We will be returning home
on Friday 1st or Saturday 2nd
of June [1962].

I think via Regency, aprt from that
I don't know what time, as anything
else concerning the flight.

Tell Suzy I will write to her
any day now. Well, Paul has
just come into the room, drumming along
with the other group, and I
can't write with all this bloody noise, so
I'll go. I know you
can't hear the row, but all the same
I'm going.

Cheerio and lots of love,
from George

This letter, written by George Harrison to Linda "Lindy" Ness, who was one of the Beatles' biggest Cavern fans and often corresponded with the band while they were in Germany. The letter refers to R&B singer Davy Jones, whom the Beatles frequently backed during their Liverpool and Hamburg appearanes.

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind. -- George Harrison, 1966
