I agree that Mark's work is excellent, but I wouldn't recommend it to an 11 year old for a couple of reasons. First, it's TOO much detail for a newbie to Beatles books, and second (and more...

Well, yes and no.

Yes, on one hand, it is amazing that a band that hasn't been together for 45 years is still able to chart recordings that have been issued and reissued in one form or another. ...

Conclusion:

JS: How did you target what you were writing--for the novice or for the person that has read dozens of Beatles books?

AK: I don't know that I think in terms of targets. I meant it to be...

Interview with Allan Kozinn

I recently conducted an interview with Allan Kozinn, author of GOT THAT SOMETHING, currently available only as an ebook. Mr. Kozinn has been with the New York Times since 1977, and is currently a...

I never bought "1". I have all those songs on the original albums, and didn't feel the need for it in my collection (ditto the RED and BLUE sets). I borrowed it to hear the sonic improvements, but...

Re: NEXT ROUND CONTEST: Let It Be, Let\'s Make a New \"1\"

If the exercise is to construct an entire new 1 album, I didn't vote correctly here. I put "Get Back" and "Let It Be" in with "Two Of Us"; there just isn't too much on this album I'm wild about...

Re: NEXT ROUND CONTEST: Past Masters 2, Let\'s Make a New \"1\"

Both sides of the "Paperback Writer" and "Hey Jude" singles, with "We Can Work It Out" and "Old Brown Shoe" to round out the list--it wasn't as hard to get to six here as I first thought it might...

Re: NEXT ROUND CONTEST: Past Masters 1, Let\'s Make a New \"1\"

Tough to get to five--I took "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "I Feel Fine," and "I'm Down" of originals, plus the covers of "Bad Boy" and "Slow Down". Which means I had to leave out "She Loves You" and...

Re: Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane or Hey Jude/Revolution?

I'd take "Hey Jude/Revolution" over "PL/SFF" without too much discomfort. Paul's half of the pairings clearly goes to "Hey Jude" and John's part is a toss-up for me.

Re: Hate 1 Beatle song

Put me down for "Dig A Pony" from the originals and "Mr. Moonlight" from the covers, although "A Taste Of Honey" isn't far behind in the latter catagory.

I can afford it--I can afford to buy a dozen if I wanted--but I didn't buy it. Capitol and The Beatles have to earn my money like every other business, and I found nothing about this box set that...

I would have made it 15 tracks as opposed to the standard 14.

Side A

1) Dear Prudence
2) Why Don't We Do It In The Road
3) Revolution
4) Martha My Dear

White Album as a single disc

Top three here were easy: Taxman, For No One, and I'm Only Sleeping, but the fourth was a coin toss. I took "Here There and Everywhere," but without conviction.

Re: NEXT ROUND CONTEST: Magical Mystery Tour, Let\'s Make a New \"1\"
