John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
Seeing as I finished my lecture at Uni early
today, I decided I'd go take a walk down Menlove Avenue to John's house! Seeing as its only a 20 minute walk there from the uni I go to! And well I have to say....... The house does not look good at all, It's a right mess! The paint is falling off the window frames/door! and looks as if its not been re-painted for ages! There's a portable workmans toilet in the drive way! The gate was left wide open with a van in the drive way! I walked up the drive way and was so close to getting round the back of the house, but I got caught by a builder!! I was so close!! I really hope that they are going to clean the house up a bit! As it's awful! While Paul's house is well looked after, because you can go inside and look round! Why can't the National Trust look after John's house the same way!!! |
Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
That's terrible! It sounds like it's condemned. I don't think John would have stood for that. Especially with Paul's looking so nice.

bu let's hope the house is just about to undergo a major fix-up and when Beatle Chick next goes by it, she'll report back to us how fab it now looks!! |
Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
They are probably still in the process of fixing it up...remember, it is scheduled to open to the public in March, so there is probably still a ton of construction going on...
Give it a chance, I doubt VERY much they'll open a "condemned" house to the public as a museum, folks...but it takes a fair bit of construction to make a place like that ready, y'know? |
Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
As long as it's ready by the time I'm in Liverpool...

Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
They're obviously planning on keeping it up, since they are taking applications for a caretaker.

Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
I remember when I visited it 3 years back it was in good condition...very nice indeed. I even saw the owner hovering while I was scavenging grass and leaves from the garden. The tour guide made some crack like "and here comes Mimi now" and the woman replied "that's Cynthia thank you!" - she was making an effort to get into the spirit of it I guess! I know it has been sold since then though. I thought the National Trust were going to buy it because of its lowering value due to all the fans going there and hanging around....no one wants to live there!

When hubby and I were there in 1997 they had just added a blue plaque to the outside, marking it as a historic place! |
Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
I would live there and be nice to the fans. Hard to believe NO ONE is willing to live there!

Re: John\'s House - Menlove Avenue!
Yeah, I'd live there too, and be quite happy about it!
Actually, one of my cyberfriends from Liverpool has applied for the caretaker position...who knows? Can you say "private tour," boys and girls? |
