I Me Mine (1979)
George Harrison(as told to Derek Taylor)
The first part is a bit of a disjointed autobiography, part 2 reproductions of the scraps of paper george wrote his lyroics on.

Re: I Me Mine

To be a little more precise;

The first part of the book is by Derek Taylor and George Harrison together, whereas Derek introduces and George tells a lot about his life as a kid in Liverpool, Brian Epstein , Friar Park, the influence of Sir Frankie Crisp, trips to USA/India/Manila, the Ravi Shankar introduction, meetings with Clapton and Jimy Hendrix, songwriting, the My Sweet Lord suitcase, the Rutles being the best documentary, gardening, car racing.

It has a lot of private photos.

Then the rest is not only the hand-written lyrics, but also 'the story behind the writing' of most of his songs. That is an interesting part as well.

Re: I Me Mine

It's a very good book! The lyrics part is very neat. And it made me realize how much George had to do with the phenomenon we call "The Beatles"

Re: I Me Mine

Even though George mentions John a grand total of ZERO times in the book.

This week, the Beatles' greatest hits album, "1", is at number six on the USA album charts.

Re: I Me Mine

That is not entirely correct,

Besides the various comments written by Derek Taylor, where John is mentioned various times, also George refers to John on the following pages

28, about a waistcoat George got from John
33, about staying in hotels
38, about the reefer in Buckingham Palace
55, about the first sitar lesson
118, about a David Frost interview
194, about wah-wah
258, in the lyrics of Living in the material world

While I haven't read this book, I hear a lot of people argue that George should have been a little more considerate giving John a mention in relation to the way he helped George fine-tune different aspects of his songwriting.

He doesn't mention Paul in the regard either as to any help he may have gotten.

That's interesting.

Re: I Me Mine

Leaves the question IF they helped George fine-tune different aspects of his songwriting and/or if John/Paul were that much of an inspiration to George.

Ofcourse there have been times where they assisted him, like e.g. John with the supposed-to-be steel guitar on For You Blue.

Re: I Me Mine

George had to be influenced by learning all of Lennon/McCartney's songs.
As a lead player, he was integral to the construction, sound and feel of them.

Going back to the very first post in this topic... if anyone's interested in a leather-bound autographed copy of I Me Mine (by both George and publisher Brian Roylance), and has a spare grand, then check this out:
