Love Songs Album is cancelled

Since 1991 there have been rumors of a Paul McCartney "Love Songs" album - but now that project has been cancelled. It was actually due out this month but Sir Paul reportedly couldn't get clearance to use about a half-a-dozen Beatle songs. Since the Beatles songs like "Michelle", "Yesterday" and "Here, There are Everywhere" are credited to the Beatles (and not just Lennon-McCartney) the group's company, which is owned by McCartney, Ringo Starr and the Estates of John Lennon and George Harrison, would have to unanimously agree on it's addition on any Beatles or non-Beatles release.

Paul will be the featured performer at the Super Bowl this Sunday I Jacksonville, Florida and there's a good bet he'll announce his upcoming North American concert tour right about at the same time.

Thank God! It'll stop people paying more money for the same old stuff!

Ok, I want to try to say this in as respectful a way as possible, and I apologize beforehand if you are offended, but anyways, here goes. I really have a hard time understanding all the Paul pseudo-bashing that happens on here. If you don't love Paul all that much, then that's fine, but as I've argued before many times concerning this love songs album, I think it was a fine idea. If anyone has written a great share of stellar love songs, Paul McCartney's one of them. I know you all are entitled to your opinions, and I am not saying you should stop sharing them, I am simply saying that I don't understand the somewhat harshness towards him. It's not as if the other Beatles haven't cahsed in on their songs by releasing them on albums over and over again, so why pick on Paul expressly about it?

erinluv, perhaps you posted this on the wrong topic. Don't worry everyone can make mistakes.

I would probably have bougth this album when it was released, being the die hard fan that I am. Sure I would enjoy the songs cause afteral it would still contain Paul's songs. But like John Lennon's acoustic, I would play it just a few times. And like John Lennon's Acoustic I think it would be a ripp off, Wingspan has been released, and to get the Beatles love songs you can buy 1.

Nothing against Paul (or John personally), but I just don't care for another compilation album, which I didn't think was a fine idea at all. So finally some good news indeed.

No, I meant to post that on complaint about the Paul bashing on this thread, to refer to everyone's comments about it being good news that the Love Songs album wasn't being released.

Just a complaint in general. I don't really understand bashing the Beatles if you're a Beatles fan, and just wanted to comment on that.

And once again I'll say it. Is a Love Songs album a good purchase for the avid Beatles fan? Possibly not. I mean, I wasn't really planning on buying it. But for your not so avid fan, it probably would have been a really good CD to have. I'm not devastated that it's not coming out, just frustrated at Yoko for nosing in and preventing something from happening that John would have had no problem with, and slightly frustrated with the fans who find it necesarry to make fun of Paul.

I can live with that. But I didn't see anyone in here who was making fun of Paul. Oh well, I am not planning on walking on egg shels here.

Me neither Legs!
I think I was bashing the idea of another compilation which to my mind is a rip off.Was there going to be half a dozen new songs on it? No, so why would I want to buy songs I already own? I would feel the same about John,George and Ringo releases. Acoustic was a rip off too - nothing was new to me on there. And Ringo bugs me by releasing new versions of each album within months of each other.
There are a few posts in various topics right now that people take offense when their views are not agreed with - this was not always the case here.
This is a forum for disscusions and if that is not the definition anymore then I'll soon be outta here!!!

Please don't take me as thinking that your views can't be discussed here. I am all about views being discussed! And I even said that in my first post on this thread. I am serious when I say that I don't understand the harshness towards the love songs album. That's what I mean, plain and simple. I just don't understand it. And seriously, the album wouldn't have been a rip off if you didn't have all the songs already. I do, so that's why I wouldn't have bought it, and probably why you wouldn't have bought it either. It's sort of similar, in my mind, toe Beatles One album. I don't have it, because I already have every single song on that album. But it was a great purchase for my sister and one of my friends, because it covered a lot of the bases for them. So it really only would have been a rip off if you bought it and then didn't listen to it. It's not like you have to buy every Beatles thing that comes out. I don't feel compelled to buy John's acoustic CD, and I'm not going to. Same thing for Paul. If I already have the songs, I'm just not going to buy it. But there probably would have been a lot of people who would have purchased it and it wouldn't have been a rip off for them.

Please don't think I'm massively upset, or crying over this or anything. I just like to debate, pretty much. I don't understand the point of view of all the harshness towards the love songs album, and that is what I meant.

Continue to debate away, and post your views, my Beatles friends.

I understand your point. I haven't bought the One album, because I have all the songs already, but I wasn't against its release. The same happens to me with this Love Songs compilation. I wasn't going to buy it, but certainly a lot of non beatles fans or some beginners, would have enjoy it. It's a pity all this situation.
