Re: John with Rickenbacker 325 Pictures
<font color="green"> Wow... I didn't know that he painted it black and white! And, well, I knew coz it's the guitar he used on the Ed Sullivan show.. But, I didn't know it was the same one!!!!! Hahaha! I like it better after he painted it. Why did he though?

Re: John with Rickenbacker 325 Pictures
He had more than one Ric 325. The "blonde" one you see above he did indeed paint black eventually. However, he had one that was given to him by the company, I believe, that was black -- the one he used on Ed Sullivan from Miami, I think...
I know there was more than one black Ric...but I'm probably screwing up the story bigtime. Maybe someone who knows more about it can straighten out the facts? Pretty please??? ![]() |
Re: John with Rickenbacker 325 Pictures
If i'm not mistaken he had a black and white Rick 325/12 (12 string) too right?

Re: John with Rickenbacker 325 Pictures
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Tiff!
![]() I found some info about John's Ric 325s... http://www.wolfmarshall.com/Beatles1.htm John Lennon's Rickenbacker 325 The guitar John played on stage in Hamburg was his blonde Ricky (the Rickenbacker 325 model). Exploiting the Ricky's unique tone, he played a very famous rhythm guitar riff in "All My Loving." "I play a pretty mean guitar in back." John Lennon on "All My Loving" THE SOUND: Rickenbacker Capri 325, a small solid body with three pickups, a 3/4 sized neck and body, and a Bigsby vibrato unit. John Lennon bought his first in Hamburg, Germany, in the early 1960's. Originally in a light natural wood finish, he painted it black later. It became a signature Lennon Beatle instrument through 1965; played on all the early records, TV performances and tours. It was seen and heard by millions on the first Ed Sullivan appearance that ignited Beatlemania in the U.S. John plugged the 325 into a Vox AC-30 amp. One of the classic early Beatle tones! http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...2/guitars.html John's 1st Rickenbacker 325 was originally purchased in Germany in 1960. Originally with a natural finish, John had this guitar painted sometime in 1962. Lennon added the Bigsby vibrato and bow-tie bridge soon after he got the 325 and used it as his main stage and studio guitar from 1960 to early 1964. It has since been restored (Why?) to it's natural color, along with the addition of a new white pickguard (Originally gold). This guitar now resides at the Lennon Museum in Japan. John's 2nd Rickenbacker 325 was given to him on The Beatles first trip to America. He first used this in '64 for the second Ed Sullivan show in Miami. This guitar now resides in The Rock & Roll Hall Of Rame in Cleveland. |
Re: John with Rickenbacker 325 Pictures
I found a page with a lot of info about John's two Rickenbacker 325s...thought people would be really interested, I know I was! Lots of pics and info, and it explains about the two guitars, the one he painted black and the black one.
