Re: George and Bill Wyman

Well, I gather you know that George will play slide guitar on this track, which is on the new album of Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings called Double Bill.

On Abbey Road's newspage it is said that 'an expert' has said in Q magazine that it is George's best slide part in aeons.

I saw an advert for the CD Single but haven't heared the song yet.

Re: George and Bill Wyman

I have finally been able to download the song.

It is a wonderfull, slow version of the famous song and George's contribution is lovely. Traditional slide guitar throughout the whole song and a short solo, but what impresses me is the total atmosphere of the song.

This is great music. I will go and listen to the rest of the album.

I'm happy about the slide and I hope I don't have to wait too long to hear it. However, I was waiting for some fresh song. I didn't know it was a cover.

The more I play it the more I like it.

The rest of the album is not my cup of tea.

I got mine a few days ago. Thought I'd leave it a little while before I commented so that I had formed an opinion. I have listened to it enough to realise that the album is very well executed....but not my cup of tea either. I just wondered who his audience is. Who is he trying to market to? Surely not old Rolling Stones fans. Anyway 'Love Letters'...I always think that when George appears on a track on someone else's album that invariably is the besttrack on that album. George did nice work, of course.

Bill was on Dutch TV recently and he said that he just invites some people he likes to play and record with and then goes touring for fun.

He does not really care if in the end there is an audience or not and is not focussed on a specific type of audience.

A bit like George.

Re: George and Bill Wyman

I got a part of a recent interview with Bill Wyman where he spoke about how George got involved.

"I had a track and wanted to get the Harrison slide-sound on it so I called George. George said 'but you have two of the best guitar players (Martin Taylor, Albert Lee) in your Kings, why ask me'. I said yes George but is the sound, you have this unique sound.
So George said OK Bill, send me the tapes and I'll do it"

That's the story folks.

Is Albert Lee any relation to Alvin Lee?

Re: George and Bill Wyman

No, they are both English but not related as far as I know.

Alvin Lee you probably know about, he worked with George and did Woodstock long way back.

Albert Lee is an English guitarist, highly proficient in a multitude of styles but primarily gifted in country and rockabilly picking. The ultimate sideman on countless sessions over the last two decades, his Telecaster twangings have graced the recordings of Eric Clapton, Gary Brooker, Jackson Browne, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, to name just a few. Also notable as the music director when the Everly Brothers reunited a few years back.

Re: George and Bill Wyman

Right, ok. I wondered about Alvin in particular, as I read somewhere that on George's Electronic Sound album he said (or it may even be written inside the sleeve somewhere): "It could be called avant garde, but a more apt description would be (in the words of my old friend Alvin) 'Avant garde a clue'!"

So I wondered if the 'Alvin' referred to here was indeed Alvin Lee?
