Apple Scruffs
Sometime ago I saw a post of someone, somewhere, wondering who played the mouth-organ on Apple Scruffs.
I believe it is George himself, because when you listen to the rehearsals e.g. on The Making Of ATMP, on #1 there is a track where George talks to the engineer and sais that it is 'hell', doing the mouthorgan because of all the hair and moustache. ------------------ We're all Apple Scruffs. |
Re: Apple Scruffs
I believe George also plays one on a B-side to "Give Me Love" (the 45) ona tune called "Miss O'Dell".
|
Re: Apple Scruffs
Miss O'dell is a well-known B side which is one of the favorites to be added to the re-releases although it has appeared on various bootlegs, in two versions, being the laughing version and non-laughing.
Indeed George did the mouth organ there too. ------------------ We're all Apple Scruffs. |
Re: Apple Scruffs
Being it the original B-side to "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)", it should be appearing as a bonus track in the announced re-releasing of the "Living In The Material World" album, this year or maybe next.

Re: Apple Scruffs
I also read somewhere that George played that. But nothing's sure about the instrumentation of "All Things Must Pass". You never get to know exactly who played what, as it happens with most of the Beatles' songs... Isn't it a pity?

Re: Apple Scruffs
I hope it's sooner than that, but you haven't even got the "All Things Must Pass" reissue in Chile yet, have you?
------------------ This week, the Beatles' greatest hits album, "1", is at number twenty-three on the USA album charts. |
Re: Apple Scruffs
It arrived to Santiago (Chile's capital city) in the beginning of April, I've been told. I've been asking for it in my local record store since then, and they told me this next week it will be here, at a very high price, though. I'm buying it anyway. That "Living In The Material World" reissue should be coming about 2025 here...

Re: Apple Scruffs
What we haven't ever seen yet is the "Plastic Ono Band" reissue. That's due for 2026, as far as I know...

Re: Apple Scruffs
By that time, George's new album will be titled "Your Planet Is Doomed, Volume 19".

LITMW is OK, but I already have that on CD and I have tracks like Miss O'dell (both, laughing and non-laughing), I don't care anymore and Deep Blue, but what I can not find is Gone Troppo. Is Gone Troppo a sort of forgotten album? Even on Napster most songs are there, but not I Really Love You. What about this Gone Troppe album. Opinions please. ------------------ We're all Apple Scruffs. |
Re: Apple Scruffs
FPSHOT, if I'm not mistaken Gone Troppo is out-of-print right now. Have you gone to Beatlefest? They may have some info there.

Re: Apple Scruffs
"Gone Troppo" is a VERY out of print George album that he didn't put much promotion behind because his parent album (Warners) didn't give a hoot about it.
The packaging is very comical with a Jimmy Buffett feel to it. Very tropical looking with a 'gone to lunch' sign featured. The 'to lunch' part is scribbled out and replaced with 'Troppo'. There's a funny photo of George on back cover of the vinyl version of this album where he is in a Hawaiian shirt with HUGE sunglasses on his face. And the inner sleeve gives you directions on how to mix cement. He was obviously in a good mood. As far as the music itself, a few tracks including 'Gone Troppo' made it onto his Dark Horse greatest hits CD but other standouts include "I Really Love You" which is something I've never heard him attempt before style-wise. Also "Circles" is the missing Beatle track from the "White Album" sessions but obviously re-recorded here. The "Time Bandits" theme is on there too. It is actually a nice album. Not a landmark one by any stretch of the imagination but a "Beatle meets Buffett" approach. |
Re: Apple Scruffs
I forgot to add that I have seen original CD copies of "Gone Troppo" on Ebay sell for around fifty dollars each and a Russian import that combines both "Extra Texture" and "Gone Troppo" sell for 15-20 dollars recently there, too.
