Cover versions of George Harrison's songs
I have listened to Nina Simone over the years. Nina might have been expected to feel more of an affinity with John Lennon due to both artists' political activism, but Nina recorded three of George tracks.
Her version of 'My Sweet Lord' , from 1972, at a concert for Black servicemen and a gospel choir , is strange to the point of being harrowing. Nina leaves out all the Hare Krishna parts out, and starts to explain to the audience how she doesn't think that she can believe in God any more. Though I can understand that her take will not meet with approval, it says something about the power of the song, that it can create such a response. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2m6IsVvj5c |
Another George Harrison number Nina covered was 'Here Comes The Sun' , which became the title track of her 1971 album . I am very fond of the song, and Nina's vocals are fine, but can't help thinking the track is over-produced.

Not bad, but I prefer the original
