I watched the trailer earlier today and it looks fantastic. Even in the trailer there were alot of pictures and video snippets I've never seen. I'll have to take a look because I don't know when/how it's going to be released. Someone mentioned HBO in 2 parts, but I'm not certain.

Oh, I can hardly wait to see this! I did notice something while watching the clip...this wonderful bit I saw on YouTube that shows George watching a video of himself play "This Boy", laughing delightedly as he talked about the guitar he was playing in it and how bad John's eyesight was...not only is this clip in the new film, it's also in full color...talk about a treat!

I hope I can watch it...or I can just buy it once it's released :D

I'm so very excited to see this!My mom told me she might buy HBO for October just so I can watch it!

Dhani Harrison Finds Documentary Hard To View

http://www.express.co.uk/features/vi...-hard-to-watch

AS fans eagerly prepare for the release of a major new biopic on the life of The Beatles legend George Harrison, his son Dhani admits he has found the film difficult to watch.

The 33-year-old, who is pursuing his own songwriting career, says that having to watch his dad’s life story, including the harrowing occasion he endured a knife attack from an intruder in his Henley home, proved tough viewing.
The film, Living In The Material World, is directed by Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese and will be released later this month. “It’s really heavy for me,” says Dhani. “I already lived it, so it’s like watching your life fed back to you through the eyes of Scorsese, which is weirder than living it.” Dhani reckons George’s fans will also find the film an intense experience.
He adds: “We’ve been working on it for more than five years now. My advice is not to plan anything after watching it. Have a nice evening off.

I saw the movie yesterday at the premiere in Liverpool. It's three and a half hours and comes in two parts. It's a very detailled, moving film, with many exciting or intense or delightful or sad clips.

Seeing George looking really ill during his cocaine-habit days and desperately trying to sing onstage (1974) was painful- hearing Olivia going into extreme detail about the stabbing he suffered- Ringo becoming choked up relating George's last words to him- these are all hard to watch.

But there is plenty of great, fun stuff, and a lot of unseen video and film and photos. For instance, COLOUR film of the Beatles with Pete Best in 1962, George singing (and all in black leather!) Video George made at home of a Musical party in 1980, and many many enthralling moments.

I can't tell you any more excpet if you're disappointed having watched this movie, it will only be because, even at 3 and a half hours, it's TOO SHORT!!

Thanks Duke for your review, I look forward to DVR'ing the documentary this week in the US.

When I was programming my DVR for "George Harrison: Living in the Material World", I thought it was all in one film being broadcast over two nights. hen I find out it's in two parts. Those of you who didn't know Part 1 is HBO on Weds., Oct. 5 @ 8pm CT and 11pm. Part 2 on Thurs., Oct. 6 @ 8pm. I didn't see any listings of a later re-broadcast of part 2.

Loved the book, but the documentary... not so much. As Duke said, it had some really great stuff, but for me it kind of missed its mark.

Here's my review. Perhaps I'm just becoming a Beatle snob.

I did enjoy part 2 much better than part 1, too bad there was not a little more of George himself speaking, I agree that the film missed most of the mark, maybe Duke was correct, a little longer with more detail....

I think HBO has the rights for a while...maybe for October as they have it on several times, at least for the US.

Esmirelda Oct 11, 2011 02:05 PM

It has been showing on HBO here in the USA.
The DVD comes out in the UK soon (I think).
It isn't released in the USA until Spring of 2012.
I don't think it's been streamed.

PaulisMine Oct 12, 2011 07:03 AM

Check youtube. Found bits of it - I don't know if the whole thing is up - but I did find some yesterday. Good luck! I am feeling your pain!!

jeohlsson Oct 13, 2011 12:02 AM

I'm aware of that however I find it strange that NO ONE recorded it and put it up online. After all it's a Scorsese documentary. You can watch 2 and a half men episodes online just about an hour after it's been aired on televeision, so I just think it's strange that the same doesn't go for Living In A Material World.

jeohlsson Oct 13, 2011 12:02 AM

And I'll check Youtube, thanks! :wave1:

Merged the thread about the on-line documentary query and the thread already started about the documentary.
