HEATHER LOSES £1,000s TO CREDIT CARD CLONER

Feb 9 2003

Exlusive by Polly Graham, Showbiz Editor

HEATHER Mills has fallen victim to a crook who cloned her bank card and went on a spending spree.

The wife of Sir Paul McCartney was devastated when she learned someone had copied her card details and used it to buy thousands of pounds worth of goods across France.

Heather, who married the former Beatle last June in Ireland, had no idea someone was using a cloned version of her bank card.

Both Heather and Paul - estimated to be worth £700million - have accounts at top people's bank Coutts, who discovered the fraud.

The bank acted when purchases in both the UK and France appeared on her account on the same days at the beginning of this month.

They checked and confirmed that the ones in the UK were Heather's but those in France the work of the fraudster.

The bank alerted the model and passed on the evidence to the police who are now investigating. Last night 35-year-old Heather's spokeswoman Anya Noakes said: "Luckily it was discovered before they managed to spend too much.

"She has been fully reimbursed for the sum that was spent. The police acted very quickly.

"Heather has no idea how they got hold of her details.""

It is not known whether she was targeted because of her healthy bank balance or it was just a coincidence.

Heather is not the only celebrity to fall victim to credit card cloning. TV newsreader Katie Derham was shocked to find her Mastercard had been cloned and used in a designer label spending spree in London's Bond Street.

Katie only realised she'd been a victim of a the scam when she tried to pay for a new bed and her card was refused because it had reached its £12,000 limit.

Ugh, that sucks. That's happened to some non-celebrity acquaintences of mine and it's sometimes a real pain to straighten out. Doesn't sound like too much damage was done here though - good to hear.

Grrrr I hate it when bad s*** happens to good people. It's good she found out in time though.
Maybe it was a jealous Macca fan?

Guys, I immediately thank you for your attention. I often have situations when the money runs out before I get paid. I have a small child. I need to buy so many things, especially at the end of the month. I am ashamed to borrow from my parents, Iím an adult, I already have children. Tell me, I have a peek at this web site, their new service at Natchitoches offers quick and easy loans that will allow me to get additional money without checking the data. Have you already used their services?
