Poetry—Part 1

I've been a member for a while, but this is my first time using the blogs so I thought I'd share some of my poetry.

This one is called "I Live In Pepperland," based on "I Live In Music" by Ntozake Shange. I wrote it for a school assignment and was happy with the way it turned out—notice how it rhymes at the end.

I Live In Pepperland
Is this where you live?
I live here in Pepperland
I live on Lord Mayor Drive
My friend lives on Yes Parkway
Do you live here in Pepperland?
Green apples
Fall round me like rain on other folks
Sunshine warms my face
Musical like a Broadway play
Colourful like a box of watercolours
I use to paint the sky
I got a blue glove where other women got hands
And a single rose for each strand of hair
I tip-toe past the meanies
Like someone else be walking on the earth
I live in Pepperland
Play in it
Sing in it
I could even hear it
Live in the psychedelic dream
Of the yellow submarine
You can listen to
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
And lose yourself
Lose yourself in Pepperland
